Senegal crawls to CHAN quarters despite being held by Sudan

Defending champions Senegal advanced to the quarterfinals of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship on Tuesday night at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar City, after settling for a barren draw against Sudan in the last match of group D.
The dull and close contest saw both sides create few scoring chances, with Sudan’s Nile Crocodiles finishing as the group winners on goal difference after both tied on 5 points.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Congo 2-0 in another game played at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, ending Congo’s hopes of reaching the round of eight.
Anas Yusuf and Alimi Sikiru were each on the scoresheet in the 2nd half of the match to ensure Nigeia finish 3rd in the group.
Sudan will face Algeria at the 15,000, seater Amaan Stadium as Senegal battles hosts Uganda in Saturday’s quarter-finals at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium.
The competition takes a 2-day break before resuming with two quarter-finals on Friday, with Kenya hosting Madagascar at Kasarani at 5pm before paving the way for Tanzania against Morocco from 8pm.
