CHAN 2024:Kenya vs Madagascar quarter final a defensive battle

Kenya will face Madagascar in the 1st quarter final of the 8th African Nations Championship this Friday, 22nd August at 5 pm at the Kasarani stadium.

It will be the only 2nd meeting between the two sides, Kenya having won 1-0 in an international friendly match on June 7th, 1991.

The match seems to be a defensive battle as both teams have been very solid in their 4 group matches.

Harambee Stars has conceded only 1 goal in all its group matches and scored 4 goals, with head coach Benni McCarthy showcasing his prowess in a tactical approach to defence, having played over 50 minutes in their 2 matches with a player deficit.

Harambee Stars defied all the odds to top group A on 10 points, enjoying an unbeaten run in the tournament.

The matches were against Angola and two-time champions Morocco.

On the other end of Madagascar, they finished 2nd in group B on 7 points, winning 2 matches, drawing 1, and losing 1.

In the process, they scored 5 goals and conceded 3.

The 2022 bronze medalist, Madagascar, will aim to improve on their performance from the last edition, where they won the quarterfinal before losing the semifinal to eventual winners Senegal.
