Speaking in Muruka, Kandara, Murang’a County during a fundraising ceremony,Wahome noted that residents of Kandara should be the ones to determine their leadership, emphasizing that voter registration in the area should be limited to individuals who are born there, live, work, or own property within the constituency.

Four linked to murder of British national arrested in Ukunda

Four suspects linked to the murder of a British national and multiple robbery with violence incidents have been arrested following an intelligence-led, multi-agency operation in Ukunda.

The operation was conducted by DCI officers drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CR&IB) Headquarters, working jointly with their counterparts drawn from SCCIO Nyali and SCCIO Msambweni (Ukunda).

The suspects, Bernard Mbusu, Isaac Kinoti Kobia, Evans Muthengi Mutaki and Kelvin Mwangi Njoroge were apprehended at Ideal Apartments, Ukunda.

The suspects have also been forensically linked to another robbery with violence incident in Watamu, Malindi Sub-County.

A search at the residence led to the recovery of stolen items, including an HP laptop, mobile phones, assorted foreign currencies, multiple credit cards, cheque books from various banks and PDQ machines.

Wetangula calls out CS Ogamba over shortage of teachers in rural schools

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has called out Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba over the acute shortage of teachers in rural schools.

Speaking at St. Francis Kolongolo Girls Secondary School in Kwanza Constituency on Saturday, Speaker Wetangula urged the Education Ministry to urgently address the imbalance through equitable staff distribution.

Speaker Wetangula emphasized that the current shortage is unjustified particularly in light of the 100,000 teachers already employed and the additional 20,000 more set to be recruited.

He noted that although President William Ruto’s administration had improved the teacher-to-learner ratio significantly, it was unacceptable for Kolongolo Secondary and other rural schools to have a shortage of up to 28 teachers.

The Speaker further urged Education CS Dr. Julius Ogambo to ensure that teacher deployment is guided by fairness and need rather than personal preferences for urban postings.

Additionally, he called upon the local leaders to refrain from engaging in divisive politics and instead work towards fostering unity within the county, a region that exemplifies the nation’s rich diverse and cosmopolitan nature.

Linda Mwananchi calls for the arrest, resignation of Interior PS

Linda Mwanachi group led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna have called for the arrest of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omolo over the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu.

Speaking at the Karen hospital after the Senator was discharged; the leaders allege that the goons were under instructions from the PS calling for his immediate resignation.

Osotsi says the intention of the Goons was to shoot him but his security team intervened and saved his life.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East Babu Owino in faulting the incident issued an ultimatum to the PS. The Linda Mwananchi Group says that they will organize for a rally in Kisumu in the coming weeks.

This comes as the three suspects linked to the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi will remain in police custody for seven days. This is after a Kisumu court allowed investigators more time to complete inquiries into the incident.

  • Ruto calls for a strategic approach to combat emerging threats

Ruto calls for a strategic approach to combat emerging threats

President William Ruto has called for the urgent strengthening of Africa’s security architecture to confront complex and emerging threats.

The President explained that the continent is operating in an era in which extreme climate, terrorism, violent extremism, and technological disruption intersect with national security profoundly.

He said Africa must build systems that are responsive, adaptive, and capable of anticipating these risks, and not merely reacting to it.

“This requires deeper strategic alignment, stronger institutions, and deliberate investment in our collective preparedness,” he said.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the Mashariki Cooperation Conference in Diani, Kwale County, he pointed out that intelligence cooperation at the continental level will strengthen Africa’s ability to address transnational threats, reinforce stability, and build confidence among nations.

As a result, he said, the challenges facing Africa can no longer be contained within national borders.

“Our security is shared as are our vulnerabilities, and our response must therefore be shared as well. Strategic partnerships are no longer optional; they are indispensable,” he said.

Kenya, President Ruto noted, remains a committed partner and a trusted convener in advancing peace and security across our region and the continent.

At the same time, the President appealed to intelligence chiefs to use their influence in their nations and play a leading role in addressing Africa’s socio-economic challenges, as well as unlocking the continent’s vast potential.

But to actualise this, he said, institutional reform of the African Union is necessary to make the continental organisation fit for purpose.

This would ensure that the continent has the capacity to find solutions within Africa, President Ruto explained, adding that the continent must stop looking for solutions elsewhere.

The President cited the strengthening of Africa’s financial institutions to finance the continent’s development and curb overreliance on debt.

“We must put our money into building the capacity of African financial institutions. That is how we are going to develop this continent,” he said.

Samburu Governor accuses Senators of allegedly extorting money

Embattled Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit has faulted the Senate of allegedly extorting money from the Governors in the name of appearing before the Senate Committees to be queried.

While revealing that he will appear before the Senate to be questioned, the Samburu County boss vowed not to bow to pressure to be bribed by the senators

The Governor is facing severe sanctions including a call to his arrest after snubbing senators for a record four times.

He has failed to honour the Senate Public Accounts Committee’s invite since last year to answer to audit queries.

The Governor is supposed to address the issues flagged at the Auditor General’s Report on Samburu County’s 2023/2024 financial statements.

The Governor, however, maintains he is not guilty of the charges against him saying it is politically motivated.

In February this year, Senate raised concern over allegations by the Council of Governors (CoG) that the Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) and the County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee (CPIC) are engaging in political witch-hunts, extortion, and harassment of governors summoned to appear before them.

Led by Senate Speaker through a communication, Kingi urged the Governors to use established channels, including formal dialogue, to raise their concerns, warning that unsubstantiated allegations in the media could undermine intergovernmental cooperation.

“Should the Council of Governors have concerns regarding the conduct or operations of Senate committees, established and legitimate institutional channels exist through which such concerns may be formally raised and addressed,” he said.

DP Kindiki was reacting to remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Ol Kalou during the funeral service of the area Member of Parliament David Kiaraho.

Other leaders including a section of Governors have condemned the former DP for ‘disrespecting and lecturing’ the Head of State William Ruto.

The Governors who included Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Ahmed Abdullahi (Wajir) Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Abdi Guyo (Isiolo), Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a) and Mahmood Mohamed (Marsabit) accused Gachagua of belittling the office of the President by ‘lecturing’ him in front of the public.

Speaking in Buuri constituency in Meru county during burial of COG CEO Mary Mwiti’s mother, they asked Gachagua to exercise political ‘tolerance and maturity’ despite his political differences with President Ruto.

Governor Waiguru said Mt. Kenya region will continue to rally behind President Ruto’s re-election.

Waiguru said the region will not leave President Ruto’s government for the opposition because it has no clear agenda for the people.

“We will stay inside government and will not leave to go to opposition, like his predecessors Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, Ruto should be allowed to complete his two terms,” she said.
