Gor Mahia have completed the signings of full-back Daniel Sakari and winger David Okoth from Kenya Police FC, while vice-captain Geoffrey “Simiti” Ochieng has completed a switch in the opposite direction to join the Law Enforcers.

Sakari, a Harambee Stars international, joins K’Ogalo on a two-year deal after leaving Kenya Police as a free agent, fending off reported interest from Tanzania’s Azam FC and clubs in Morocco.

The 27-year-old, comfortable at right-back, left-back or wing-back, has been capped in AFCON and World Cup qualifiers and is expected to strengthen Gor Mahia’s defence for both the domestic league and CAF Champions League campaigns.

South Africa World Cup midfielder Adams dies aged 25

South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25, just weeks after featuring for his country at the World Cup.

Adams featured in all three of South Africa’s group games at the tournament, where they reached the knockout stages before losing to co-hosts Canada in the round of 32.

“It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams,” South Africa’s minister of sport, arts and culture Gayton McKenzie said, in a statement.

“South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents, and our nation mourns alongside his family, his team-mates and the millions of supporters who watched him grow from a promising academy prospect into a full Bafana Bafana international.”

Police in South Africa said they had opened an investigation after the body of a 25-year-old man was found at a house in Schotschekloof, a suburb in central Cape Town, on Saturday morning.

McKenzie added: “The cause of Jayden’s passing has not yet been confirmed, and I wish to appeal to members of the media and the public to exercise restraint and compassion, and to refrain from speculation, while his family and Mamelodi Sundowns are given the space and privacy they need at this incredibly difficult time.

“Any official information will be communicated by the appropriate parties in due course.”

Adams started in the 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic in Group A despite learning that his grandmother had passed away only hours before kick-off.

The South African Football Players Union said it was “devastated by the untimely passing” of Adams who made his debut for his country in 2022.

“Jayden had only recently represented South Africa at the 2026 World Cup, carrying the hopes of the nation with pride, courage and distinction.

“His passing is an immeasurable loss to his family, team-mates, clubs, the football fraternity and the country at large.

“South African football has lost a gifted player, a proud servant of the game and a young life that still had so much to offer.”

Adams started his career at Stellenbosch FC, before moving to Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025, where he won league and African Champions League titles.

He was part of the South Africa squad that reached the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals before being called up to Hugo Broos’ squad for the World Cup, where the team made history in reaching the knockout stages of the competition for the first time.

“It’s so incredibly sad to hear that South Africa midfielder Jayden Adams has passed away just weeks after featuring in his nation’s historic Fifa World Cup campaign,” Fifa president Gianni Infantino said.

“My thoughts and condolences, as well as those of everyone at Fifa and the global football community, are with his family, friends and team-mates. The Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.”

  • Sadio Mané retires from Senegal duty after World Cup exit

Sadio Mané retires from Senegal duty after World Cup exit

Sadio Mané has officially closed the book on his Senegal career, confirming his international retirement in a statement carried by Le Quotidien days after the Lions of Teranga’s exit from the 2026 World Cup.
At 34, Mané leaves the national team having amassed 130 caps, scoring 54 goals and providing 29 assists across a career that began in 2012.
His farewell caps a rollercoaster final stretch with Senegal. The high point remains guiding his nation to their historic first Africa Cup of Nations title in 2021, beating Egypt on penalties.
A second AFCON crown followed in 2025, which the Lions of Teranga won, beating the hosts Morocco 1-0 in the final after extra time.
Only to be stripped of the title two months later, with the Atlas Lions being awarded a 3-0 victory by default and crowned champions by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This year’s World Cup brought no easier path. Senegal were drawn into a punishing group alongside France, Norway and Iraq, opening with a 3-1 defeat to the French before a 3-2 loss to Norway left their qualification hopes hanging by a thread.
They regrouped to beat Iraq and scrape through as one of the best third-placed sides, only to be eliminated in the round of 16 after a heartbreaking 3-2 extra-time defeat to Belgium, having led 2-0 with five minutes left.
Off the pitch, the campaign was overshadowed by turmoil inside the Senegalese Football Federation.
Players’ qualification bonuses reportedly went unpaid despite the FSF banking prize money from both AFCON 2025 and World Cup qualification, while the squad’s US base camp drew complaints over substandard accommodation.
Head coach Pape Thiaw entered the tournament without a signed contract, and the federation was even accused of leaving the eliminated squad stranded in Seattle without return flights home.
Through all of it, Mané leaves as one of Senegalese football’s defining figures, and says he hopes to keep serving the national team in a new role.

World Cup 2026: Spain and Belgium renew 1986 rivalry for semi-final spot

Forty years after their famous World Cup meeting, Spain and Belgium go head-to-head once again in a quarterfinal battle for a place in the semi-finals, with the clash taking place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
The two sides last met at this stage of the tournament in 1986, when Belgium beat Spain on penalties in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup, before Spain gained revenge in the group stage at the 1990 edition.
That 1986 shootout remains one of the most memorable chapters in either nation’s World Cup history, and this rematch offers Belgium the chance to replicate that famous result, while Spain will be eager to avoid a repeat.
Both sides head into the contest unbeaten in the tournament, and both emerged as winners of their respective groups in North America, having since experienced a range of emotions in the knockout stages.
Spain have been especially efficient defensively, becoming the first team in World Cup history to keep six consecutive clean sheets after edging Portugal 1-0 through a stoppage-time Mikel Merino winner.
Belgium, meanwhile, arrive full of confidence following a statement 4-1 demolition of co-hosts USA, with Charles De Ketelaere among the standout performers.

The pair have also crossed paths regularly outside the World Cup, with their overall head-to-head history stretching back to a 1921 friendly and including multiple qualifiers and continental fixtures over the decades, leaving the historical ledger fairly even between the two nations.
