    Pipeline falters against Zamalek in Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship final

     

    Reigning national women’s volleyball champions Kenya Pipeline failed to lift the African Club Championship trophy for the 7th time in their history after losing 3-1 to Egyptian side Zamalek in the final played in Tunisia.

    Zamalek started the match on a high note, winning the first set 25-22.

    Pipeline however responded strongly, winning the 2nd set 18-25 to tie the score.

    The Egyptians got back in the lead, clinching the 3rd set 25-15, before winning the fourth and final set 25-17 to win the match and be crowned champions for the first time.

    Kenya Pipleine wait for the contnental crown persists since winning the title in Nairobi in 2005.

    Kenya’s second club in this years competition, KCB, who went into the championship as defending champions were bundled out at the quarter final stage.

    Favorites Malaba Giants were knocked out of the ongoing Global Appeal Football Tournament after losing 3-4 via penalty kicks to Young Tigers following a barren draw in their entertaining round of 16 match played at Busia Stadium.

    Young Tigers assured themselves of a place in the quarter finals after scoring all their penalty kicks via Kelvin Mande, Denis Opondo, Charles Oundo and Morgan Wandera.

    Malaba Giants who feature in FKF Division two had James Sampeki, Christopher Ejakait spot kicks saved while Emmanuel Osoro, Peter Watitwa and Steve Simiyu hit the target during the shoot out.

    Malaba Giants patron Bishop Abraham Omanyo and team captain said fatique cost them the match after playing three matches in two days including league match away to Luanda Sportiff which they won 2-1.

    Another County league side Khwilare qualified for the last eight after upsetting Regional side, Busia Ajax 1-0 with Benjamin Ekesa scoring the lone goal.

    Fans favorite Jobless FC from the sprawling Marachi estate joined Western Region side Obucuun Border sailed through to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

    Obocuum outshined Mundulusia 2-0 at Busia Polytechnic grounds thanks to goals from Shawal Olulu in 20th minute and Denis Aruna in 59th minute.

    The Obucuun from Among’ura in Teso South are leading in their FKF Zone with 58 points from 20 matches.

    Kiyoro are second with 39 points from the same number of matches, three points ahead of Enombela in third position.

    OPET FC which is also participating in Division Two league secured a place in the last eight after beating Bumala Allstars 1-0 with John Omondi scoring the solitary goal. Earlier, Opet had beaten county league club Kekalet 1-0 at the same venue.

    Phoenix rises as GOA slumps in national Rollball league

    Former League Champions GOA were humbled 10-1 by Phoenix during the national men’s rollball league match played Sunday at Gretsa University,Thika,Kiambu County.

    The League resumed over the weekend following a two month break  to pave way for the 6th Roll ball World Cup held earlier this month in India.

    Two time league champions Glory Outreach Assemblies GOA lost their fourth match this season as Phoenix grabbed their 6th win in an emphatic fashion. James Mwangi was in fine form for Phoenix scoring five goals as Solomon Kinuthia scored twice while Helmetron Gicheru grabbed a hattrick to hand the Tonny Sheddy coached side the vital win. Albert Omware scored the consolation for GOA.

    In another men’s results Wolves edged out hosts Gretsa 7-3 as Tigers narrowly beat St.Pauls University 3-2.

    In The ladies matches Gretsa registred a slim 1-0 win against Wolves with Bilha Bore scoring the lone goal in the 24th minute.
    A total of six matches were played during the 12th roundnd of the league expected to end in July.

    Jomo Kenyatta University Of Agriculture and Technology,JKUAT are the reigning men’s league champions while Archibella currently ranked 3rd on the log are seeking to defend their women’s title.

    Golf: Van Niekerk and Junaid Manji victorious at Junior Golf Championships

    Over 300 golfers took part in the two legs of the Junior golf championship held at Karen Country Club and Muthaiga Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

    On Saturday the action was held at the  ever-green par-72 Karen course where 145 young golfers participated while Sunday’s leg at Muthaiga  attracted 174 juniors.

    At the Karen leg, Ewan Van Niekerk emerged as the top player in the boys 15-18-year-olds category with a score of 83 gross, followed closely by Ishan Samani with 84 gross.
    In the boys 13-14-year-olds category, Shashwat Harish claimed victory with 75 gross points, while Justin Ngeera won the boys 12-year-olds category with 81 gross. Amar Shah achieved the best score among the 11-year-old boys with 81 gross.

    In the boys, ten, nine, eight, seven, and six-and-under categories, Gitonga Gitobu, Adam Nesbitt, Paren Ree, Ivan Kipyegon Kimutai, and Surya Bongu were crowned winners.

    Among the girls, Hazel Kuria secured top honors in the 15-18-year-olds category with a score of 93 gross, while Cherono Kipkorir emerged as the winner in the 13-14-year-olds category with 79 gross.

    In other categories of younger golfers playing nine holes, Marya Nyambura won among the 11-12-year-olds with 83 gross, Ashley Gachora excelled among the 9-10-year-olds with 41 gross, and Aarna Mengi was the top junior among the 8-years-and-under category.

    Meanwhile, at Muthaiga, Junaid Manji claimed first place in the boys 15-18-year-olds category with a round of 76, defeating Ewan Van Niekerk, who finished with 83 gross.

    Nathan Mwangi emerged as the winner in the boys 13-14-year-olds category with 79 points, edging out Tsevi Soni on countback. Mwathi Gicheru topped the 12-year-old category with an impressive score of 74 gross.

    In other categories, Amar Shah (11-year-olds), Gitonga Gitobu (10-year-olds), Adam Nesbitt (nine-year-olds), Paren Reel (eight-year-olds), Nathan Mwai (seven-year-old), and James Tino (six-year-olds-and-under) were crowned winners.

    Among the girls, Hazel Kuria claimed victory in the 15-18-year-olds category with 82 gross, while Cherono Kipkorir took the top spot in the 13-14-year-olds category with 85 gross.

    In other categories, Brianna Ngecu (11-12-year-olds), Aria Dodhia (nine-to-ten-year-olds), and Irene Asiyo (eight years and under) were crowned winners.
