Ruaka wall collapse: One killed, tenants ordered to vacate 3 apartments

One person died and another was injured after a perimeter wall of a residential apartment collapsed on an adjacent iron-sheet residential structure following the ongoing heavy rains in Ruaka, Kiambu county.
The county government of Kiambu has ordered the immediate evacuation of tenants. A third person was rescued during the operation by the county government’s disaster management team.
Governor Kimani Wamatangi, who was among the first people to arrive at the scene Monday morning, asked the tenants living in the surrounding three apartments to vacate as a precautionary measure even as an inspection and assessment by a multi-agency team comprising county and national government officials got underway.

Wamatangi said his administration will continue to inspect all buildings from the construction stage to completion, as well as monitor the safety of all structures, to ensure that such tragic occurrences are avoided at all costs.
