Ruto will win again, protests need boundaries – Sudi

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has firmly defended President William Ruto’s leadership, asserting that the Head of State will serve two full terms.

Speaking at a funeral ceremony in Kapcherop, Elgeyo Marakwet County, Sudi dismissed opposition chants of “Ruto Must Go” and “One Term,” urging critics to await the ballot in 2027.

“Those shouting ‘Ruto Must Go’ should wait for the elections. We will win early in the morning. No president in Kenya has ever served just one term,” Sudi stated.

He compared the current criticism of President Ruto to the scepticism he faced during his first term as Member of Parliament, noting that despite being written off, he is now serving his third term.

“They started by calling the President Zakayo, then they called him Kasongo, and now they’re chanting ‘One Term’. Even when I was first elected, they said I’d serve only one term — but now I’m on my third,” he said, expressing confidence that Ruto will convincingly defeat his rivals in the 2027 presidential polls.

Sudi also addressed Kenya’s youth, particularly those identifying as Gen Z, challenging them to back their political views by enlisting as voters.

“Gen Z should register to vote first before shouting ‘One Term’. Let’s focus on work now; politics will come next year,” he stated.

Regarding the ongoing national discourse about public protests, Sudi said Parliament is working on a new law to guide and regulate protests throughout the country. He stressed the need to designate specific zones for demonstrations and warned against attempts to invade sensitive security installations.

“Anyone who wants to demonstrate will have to do so in a designated area. That’s the law we are preparing. If you go beyond it, you will face the consequences,” he cautioned.

Sudi, a close ally of President Ruto, reiterated that the government is committed to order, stability, and development, urging critics to express their concerns through legal and peaceful means.
