Ruto: I will not succumb to ‘wantam’ threats

President William Ruto has hit back at opposition leaders, saying his administration will not succumb to the blackmail and threats of one-term calls.

Speaking at Statehouse Nairobi during the launch of the Nairobi County Empowerment program, President Ruto said his administration is resolute and focused on delivering transformative change across the country.

“We will not and we will never succumb to the blackmail and threats of ‘wantam’ because we know where we are going as a nation,” he stated.

President Ruto dismissed his critics, saying those opposing his programs have no clear agenda and affirmed that he will remain committed to the country’s transformation.

Today’s event saw more than 1,100 business groups receive a variety of tools and equipment to boost the informal sector.

The Head of State announced a new partnership with the World Bank to provide Ksh50,000 to 70 youths in every ward nationwide, injecting Ksh5 billion to boost youth entrepreneurship starting next month.

He further outlined the government’s progress on key empowerment initiatives, citing the Hustler Fund, which now boasts 26 million accounts.

Since its inception, Ruto said Ksh72 billion has been disbursed, with 10,000 Kenyans accessing loans daily and consistently repaying on schedule, contributing to Ksh5 billion in savings.

The President revealed that 320,000 jobs have been generated so far through the affordable housing program, with plans to double employment to 640,000 in the next three months.

“Our youth are our greatest national asset. We must ensure they have access to education and meaningful employment,” he noted.
