Achani hosts CS Mvurya in a women empowerment program

Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani has hosted Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya in a major Women and Youth Empowerment Program at Mwavumbo Secondary School, Kinango Sub-County.

The program aimed to boost economic participation and improve livelihoods both socially and economically.

Addressing the crowd, CS Mvurya who was representing President William Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive development, especially in marginalized regions such as the Coast.

“The future of this country lies in unlocking the potential of our youth and women. We are committed to ensuring that they are not just beneficiaries of development, but key drivers of it,” said Mvurya.

Governor Fatuma Achani lauded the initiative,noting that it has come when the county government is also rolling out a program to award contracts to women, youth, and people with disabilities, as part of its strategy to combat poverty levels in Kwale—largely driven by unemployment.

“So far, Kwale County has registered 300 companies owned by women, youth, and people living with disabilities. Out of these, 150 have secured tenders with the county government and the private sector,”she noted.

Kinango Member of Parliament, Gonzi Rai, thanked the national government for its support and urged the youth and women in Kinango to take full advantage of the opportunities being availed through government funds.

“Let’s not wait for opportunities to come to us. With the resources being made available, our young people should rise and become job creators,” he added.

The Kinango edition of the empowerment program comes at comes just a month after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula held a fundraiser for women’s groups in the Matuga and Msambweni Sub-counties.
