Police in Kisumu destroy over 200 litres of illicit brew hidden in a thicket

Police in Kisumu have seized and destroyed over 200 litres of illicit alcohol found hidden in a thicket following a tip-off from members of the public.

The operation, led by officers from the Kisumu Central Police Station, led to the recovery of 10 jerricans (each 20 litres) and two 200-litre drums of Kangara, alongside five litres of Chang’aa.

The stash had been hidden in dense vegetation and is believed to have been stored temporarily before being transported for distillation.

“One suspect, believed to be the owner of the illicit alcohol, was arrested at the scene. He is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday,” police said in a statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS).

Police say preliminary investigations suggest the site was being used as a temporary storage location for the Kangara ahead of its planned transportation for distillation.

The National Police Service (NPS) lauded the public for its continued vigilance, saying timely information-sharing is crucial in the ongoing crackdown on illicit brews and narcotics.
