Ndiang’ui Kinyagia summoned to DCI after resurfacing publicly

Ndiang’ui Kinyagia has been summoned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters to record a statement following his sudden reappearance in court today (Wednesday).

The National Police Service through a statement said that Kinyagia remains a person of interest to the police in ongoing investigations.

Ndiangui Kinyagia had been reported missing, and information circulating on social as well as mainstream media accused the Police Service of allegedly abducting him.

“He remains a person of interest to the police and is hereby urged to present himself to the DCI Headquarters to record a statement. The Service reiterates its earlier response that Ndiangui Kinyagia was not in police custody,” said NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.

The police was responding to reports that it was involved in the abduction of the online activist and reiterated that he was not in their custody and expressed concerns over the emerging trend whereby individuals feign abduction and provide false information intending to generate a misleading narrative that exploits public outrage.

“These criminal acts undermine the integrity of our law enforcement efforts, damage the reputation of the National Police Service, and cause anxiety to the public,” he added.

The Police Service cautioned Kenyans against the stage-managed abductions and providing false information which are punishable by law.
