Kenya to advocate preventive, promotive healthcare in fight against Malaria

Kenya will focus on preventive and promotive healthcare, addressing drug and insecticide resistance, vector behavior changes, climate change, and cross-border challenges as new strategies for Malaria elimination.

Speaking during the Africa Malaria Progress Report Experts meeting in Nairobi, Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni said that the launch of the Universal Health Coverage program and the establishment of Community Health Promoters and Primary Care Networks will  enhance early detection and treatment, aligning with the goals of the Malaria Strategy 2019-2023.

The PS noted that Africa bears the brunt of the over 200 million malaria cases reported annually and called for regional unity and renewed dedication in the fight against the disease.

The meeting brings together experts from Africa Union Member States, organs, partners, civil society among others to prepare and finalise the African Union 2023 Malaria Progress and draft Assembly decision, which will be submitted to the  Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in February 2024.
