    The Cabinet Secretary for Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Joho, met with the U.S. ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, on Wednesday at his office in Nairobi.

    Joho and Whitman discussed matters relating to the Kenya-U.S. partnership, especially investment in the areas of mining, the blue economy, and maritime affairs.

    The two exploited areas of collaboration to ensure they contribute fully to Kenya’s economic growth and rapidly create quality jobs for our young people.

    Particularly, the focus was on collaboration that will bolster the economic value of the two countries’ minerals, boost investment in the blue economy in the areas of cold storage facilities and fish farming, and enhance maritime security.

    “Over the years, Kenya and the U.S. have enjoyed cordial relations, and I am committed to ensuring that cooperation flourishes and deepens for the benefit of Kenyans. I welcome Amb. Whitman’s assurance that we will work together towards strengthening the existing cooperation between our two countries.” The CS said

    Principal Secretaries Mr. Elijah Mwangi (Mining), Ms. Betsy Njagi (Blue Economy and Fisheries), and Mr. Geoffrey Eyanae Kaituko (Maritime Affairs and Shipping) were present during the meeting.

    Kenya and US: Strengthening ties for peace and security, says Mudavadi

    Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi has emphasized the strong partnership between Kenya and the United States in promoting regional leadership, conflict resolution, and stabilization.

    Speaking at the 248th-anniversary celebration of USA Independence Day at the official residence of US Ambassador Meg Whitman, Mudavadi highlighted Kenya’s pivotal role in regional and continental peace and security.

    “The U.S. has been one of Kenya’s greatest partners in enhancing regional leadership in conflict resolution and stabilization. We hold the view that to strengthen our national security, we shall require international cooperation to secure our people at home and abroad,” Mudavadi said.

    He also noted that Kenya and the US collaborate closely on various issues at the United Nations, including peace operations and the maintenance of international peace and security as outlined in the UN Charter.

    Mudavadi emphasized that both countries, as democracies, work together for regional peace, security, and prosperity.

    “Kenya believes that entrenching democracy, promoting human rights, and the rule of law are the best options to achieve peace, security, stability, and sustainable development,” he stated.

    He added that Kenya’s commitment to regularly scheduled democratic elections underscores the country’s belief in accountability and good governance.

    Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1964, Kenya-US relations have grown stronger.

    Mudavadi highlighted the recent successful state visit by President William Ruto, which further solidified the relationship and expanded partnerships in trade, investment, security, and technology, positioning Kenya as a digital leader in the region, known as the ‘Silicon Savannah’.

    Mudavadi praised Ambassador Whitman for her exemplary work in strengthening Kenya-US relations and enhancing Kenya’s international standing.

    “The people and government of Kenya sincerely recognize your hard work and we commit to continue working closely with you for the mutual benefit of our friendly states,” he said.

    United States announces partnership to boost Kenyan coconut industry

    The United States has announced a partnership with Kenyan coconut-processor Kentaste that will create economic opportunities for more than 4,500 Kenyan farmers.

    Ambassador Meg Whitman joined leaders from Kentaste on Monday, August 28, 2023 for the announcement of the project funded by a combined investment between USAID and Kentaste of more than $1.6 million (Ksh.232,400,000.00), which will support efforts to expand Kentaste’s exports to the United States.

    U.S. support for the project comes from the United States Agency for International Development with funding from Feed the Future and Prosper Africa.

    The partnership is expected to increase Kentaste’s processing capacity by 67 pc to 50,000 coconuts per day, generate 90 full-time jobs, and enroll 1,500 new farmers as suppliers. More than 30 pc of newly enrolled farmers will be women.

    The project will also eliminate 32,500 liters of food loss and waste over the next two years by increasing processing efficiency.

    “Through partnerships like this, we are enhancing trade, transforming lives, and combating food waste and its impacts on climate change,” said Ambassador Whitman.  “Sustainable growth and international collaboration are key to the prosperity of both our countries.”

    The collaboration between the USAID and Kentaste also secures ties with two major U.S. retailers who will carry Kentaste’s coconut water products.

    These connections expand access to the U.S. market for Kenyan coconut products and provide employment for Kenyan producers.

     “With Kentaste, I now have consistent earnings and better farming techniques,” said local farmer Abdalla Juma Mwaramunda. “This partnership is transforming our community.”

    Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hit out at opposition leader Raila Odinga for his criticism of the US ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman.

    Speaking while addressing residents of Eldoret town while on his way to the Devolution conference on Thursday, the DP urged that the opposition leader’s sentiments be ignored as it did not reflect the government’s or the country’s position on the KENYA – US relations.  The hundreds of residents had flocked the streets to receive him.

    The DP emphasized that the US and Kenya enjoy good diplomatic relations and is a major actor in the country’s development agenda.

    The DP lauded the ambassador to Kenya saying she plays a pivotal role in promoting the Kenya – US trade.

    The DP said that Kenya will continue the friendship of the two countries and other partners undeterred. He called on leaders to respect the democracy of the country as well as other democracies and partners.

    Kenya is keen on enhancing its relations with the United States to expand trade and investment opportunities for citizens of both nations.

    Ambassador Whitman: Kenya most democratic state in Africa

    The 9th August 2022 General Election was the most credible poll Kenya has ever held.

    This is according to US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman who lauded the country’s efforts in conducting credible, transparent and verifiable elections as she addressed the Devolution Conference in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

    Speaking at the opening of the Devolution Conference , Ambassador Whitman said the elections were a proof of how democratic Kenya is.

    Whitman also noted the acknowledgement of the Presidential results by both local and international observers.

    Whitman’s remarks came as the Kenya Kwanza Administration and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition are engaging in bipartisan talks to resolve political differences among them the results of last year’s presidential election.
