‘Bella is dying, maybe next week’ tackles medical anxiety with heart, humour

Kenyan short film exploring the emotional impact of online self-diagnosis on young people is set to screen at Unseen Cinema on Wednesday, April 9.

Bella Is Dying, Next Week, directed by award-winning creatives Abigail Arunga and Mkaiwawi Mwakaba, and produced by James Kombo, follows the story of a 12-year-old girl convinced she is dying after spiraling down a rabbit hole of internet medical content.

Blending raw emotion with touches of humour, the film offers a heartfelt and timely look at the fears and confusion of growing up in an increasingly digital world.

As Bella navigates her anxiety, viewers are invited into a poignant narrative that reflects broader conversations about mental health, technology, and the challenges faced by the youth.

Screenings will take place daily at 5 PM at Unseen Cinema, with tickets set at KSh. 550 for adults and KSh. 300 for those under 18.

A special Q&A session with the filmmakers is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, at 7 PM, offering audiences a unique opportunity to engage directly with the creative team behind the film.
