Gachagua cuts short U.S. tour, cites urgent party duties

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cut short his United States tour to spearhead preparations for upcoming by-elections under his Democratic Change Party (DCP).

Gachagua, who had spent a month engaging Kenyans in the diaspora, said he was unable to visit several planned states, citing the need to return home to join the party’s campaign machinery.

In statement on X, he described the trip as successful and fulfilling but noted that the remaining engagements have been rescheduled to early next year.

“I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party, DCP, in preparation for the upcoming By-Elections in various parts of our country,” Gachagua said while extending apologies to organisers and diaspora Kenyans he was due to meet.

He commended DCP chapters in the US for planning, organisation and meticulous coordination during the tour.

The former DP said he will take a short break before returning to Kenya, noting that his itinerary will be made public as earlier promised.

Gachagua has been on an outreach mission to strengthen the DCP’s diaspora networks as the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 general election.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, as part of his ongoing tour of the United States, which has seen him engage with members of the Kenyan diaspora across several cities.

Gachagua, who touched down in Baltimore on Thursday night accompanied by his spouse, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, is expected to hold a series of meetings with Kenyans drawn from various sectors.

The visit is part of a broader strategy to engage the Kenyan diaspora and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

“I am thrilled to have landed in Baltimore, Maryland, as part of my ongoing “Engage the Diaspora” tour, in USA accompanied by my spouse, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi,” said Gachagua.

“It is truly fulfilling to witness the indefatigable spirit of Kenyans across the world, our resilience, warmth, and vibrant culture continue to inspire.”

Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), has so far launched party offices in Seattle, Washington, and Boston, Massachusetts, as part of his effort to solidify grassroots support abroad.

The former DP began his U.S. tour on July 10 and is expected to visit more cities in the coming days.
