    Bomet accident: Transport CS visits victims as death toll rises to 15

    The death toll from Saturday’s tragic accident at Cheptangulgei area, along Kaplong-Kericho road, Bomet county, has risen to 15.

    The development was confirmed by government officials led by Transport CS Davis Chirchir, who visited survivors of the crash admitted to St. Claire’s Kaplong Mission Hospital.

    11 people were seriously injured and are receiving treatment.

    Chirchir was flanked by Bomet governor Hillary Barchok, Sotik MP Francis Sigei and National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Chairman Khatib Mwashetani.

    The team also condoled with the families who lost their kin in the accident that involved three vehicles.

    The National Police Service has extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a quick recovery to those injured in the incident.

    Authorities have since called on motorists and all road users to exercise caution on the roads, particularly with regard to speed limits and overtaking rules.

    “This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the importance of personal responsibility while on the road. Adherence to traffic rules is not optional—it is a matter of life and death,” read a statement from the police.

    13 die in grisly accident on Sotik-Kericho highway

    Thirteen people have died and 11 others are seriously injured in a road accident involving three vehicles at Cheptangulke area, Bomet County, along the Kericho-Kaplong highway.

    According to police reports, the fatal crash occurred on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when a lorry, a Nissan matatu, and a private car (Nissan Mazda) collided.

    Preliminary investigations indicate that the private car was speeding and playing loud music at the time of the crash. It is suspected that the car was being driven recklessly, which may have caused the collision.

    The injured were rushed to Kaplong and Kapkatet Hospitals. Police have launched a probe into the accident.
