    Detectives recover vehicle used in murder of Meru blogger

    DCI detectives drawn from the homicide unit have recovered the vehicle that was allegedly used in the abduction of the late blogger Daniel Muthiani Benard alia Sniper.

    The DCI stated that forensic analysis had revealed that the same vehicle was used to dispose off the body at Mutonga River in Chiakariga area of Tharaka Nithi on December 2, 2023.

    The vehicle, a silver Toyota Premio registration number KCR 742N, was recovered at a residential place at Canopy area in Kithoka, Meru county.

    Detectives further indicated that Vincent Mureithi Kirimi alias Supuu was the driver who hired the vehicle on the date of Sniper’s abduction.

    Other three occupants including Brian Mwenda, Christus Manyara Kiambi and Boniface Kithinji Njihia alias DJ Kaboom were also ferried in the same car.

    “Further investigations are ongoing with the Homicide team working expeditiously on the case,” said the DCI.

    Sniper went missing on December 2, and the grim discovery of his body was made on December 16, 2023 in Mutonga River, Tharaka Nithi following a two-week search.

    A government autopsy conducted by pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Sniper died of strangulation.

    The autopsy also indicated fractured ribs and head injuries, suggesting he was strangled before being disposed of in the river.

    Court orders mental assessment for two suspects linked to Sniper’s murder

    Two suspects implicated in the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani, also known as Sniper, will be detained for an additional 7 days pending a mental assessment.

    This follows a directive by the Kiambu High Court Deputy Registrar Jackline Karani, who ordered a psychiatrist assessment for each suspect to determine their fitness to stand trial.

    Vincent Mureithi Kirimi Alias Supuu and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai Alias Tali will remain in custody at Muthaiga Police Station until January 29,  when they are scheduled to appear in court for plea taking.

    On Thursday, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed that there was sufficient evidence to sustain the charge of murder against the two suspects.

    Additionally, the ODPP has filed a case against five other suspects currently pending before Kibera Law Courts.

    The Meru blogger was reported missing on December 2, 2023, and his body was discovered dumped in Mutonga River in Tharaka Nithi County on December 16, 2023.

    A postmortem conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Odour showed that he had been strangled to death.

    CS Kindiki vows swift action in blogger Sniper’s murder

    Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has declared his unwavering commitment to taking decisive action against those responsible for the brutal murder of Meru-based blogger Daniel Muthiani Benard, widely known as Sniper.

    The stern announcement came through a statement shared on the Cabinet Secretary’s official social media account.

    Kindiki asserted that law enforcement agencies are in the final stages of identifying the individuals deemed accountable for the heinous crime.

    The Interior CS minced no words in expressing his determination to ensure that justice is served swiftly and comprehensively.

    Those responsible for organizing, financing and executing the cruel murder of Daniel Muthiani, alias Sniper, have a date with justice,” he said.

    He further elaborated on the ongoing investigative efforts, stating, “Detectives are concluding the process of identifying the evil perpetrators, including those who lured the young man to his death and those who tortured, murdered and dumped his body in an attempt to conceal the terrible crime.”

    The CS’s resolute stance underscores the government’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and sending a clear message that such acts of violence will not be tolerated.

    The tragic loss of Daniel Muthiani has prompted heightened scrutiny and determination to ensure that those responsible are swiftly held accountable for their actions.

    Moses Kuria vows justice for slain Meru-blogger

    Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has voiced his concerns over the tragic disappearance and death of Meru-based blogger Daniel Muthiani Benard, also known as Sniper.

    In a statement posted on his Twitter handle Friday, the CS emphasized that the incident should not be taken lightly and assured the public of his commitment to follow up on the ongoing investigations and help bring Sniper’s killer to justice.

    “The disappearance of Meru based human rights and political activist Sniper is not something to be taken for granted. Verily, verily I say unto the one responsible- You will not get away with this. I will pursue this matter to the bitter end,’ he declared.

    The CS also claimed that the murder of Sniper is in line with the continued profiling and stigmatization of Mt Kenya youths, branding them as members of mungiki and other outlawed gangs.

    “When the threshold of what is legit Humanitarian standards fall this low, the outcome is what you see,” he added.

    ODPP says yet to receive inquiry file on murder of Meru blogger

    The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) says it has not received an inquiry file on the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani, commonly known as Sniper.

    In a statement issued on Wednesday, ODPP pledged to give appropriate directions into the case upon receipt of the inquiry file from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

    “Following the recovery of the body of the abducted person, the ODPP directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to undertake investigations for the offence of murder and submit the resultant inquiry file for perusal and further directions,” the statement read.

    ODPP further explained that a suspect, Vincent Muriithi also known as Supuu Wa Mioro had been arrested on suspicion of abducting the deceased.

    “Owing to the fact that the whereabouts of abducted person was unknown, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), through the ODPP filed Criminal Miscellaneous application No. E116 of 2023 seeking custodial orders pending completion of investigations.

    “The Chief Magistrate’s court in Maua, Meru County declined to grant custodial orders as sought by the DCI through the ODPP but instead granted the suspect a cash bail of Ksh20,000 and ordered the suspect to report to the police station every 14 days. The court also set the application for mention on 5th January, 2024.”

    Muthiani’s body was discovered on 16th December, 2023 in Mutonga River, Tharaka Nithi after he went missing for two weeks.
