    Two robbery suspects arrested as police recover stolen goods in Kisauni

    Police in Mombasa have arrested two suspects linked to a series of robberies and recovered stolen household items in an operation in Kisauni, Mombasa County.

    According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Mjambere Police Station conducted the operation across Barsheba, Kagujo and surrounding areas, leading to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of a cache of electronics and household goods believed to have been stolen.

    The duo is believed to be part of a criminal network behind several robberies and burglaries reported in Kisauni and neighbouring Kadzandani.

    Some of the recovered items have already been identified by a 21-year-old student from the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), who had earlier reported a theft incident.

    The suspects are in custody at Mjambere Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday to face charges related to the offences.

    NPS attributed the arrests to information shared by members of the public, reiterating their commitment to strengthening security operations in the area and maintaining public safety.

    Police have arrested three suspects linked to a violent robbery in Ngong and recovered a firearm.

    According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects were apprehended on Tuesday during an operation conducted by officers from Ngong Police Station, the DCI, and Mwea-Makutano Police Post.

    The operation, carried out at about 1:04 a.m., targeted the Makutano–Ngomongo area in Kirinyaga County, where the suspects were believed to have gone into hiding after the robbery.

    The trio, Alex Wanjiku alias Aleko, Job Wachira Wanjohi, and Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku alias Kinyaa, allegedly shot and injured a victim during the robbery in Ngong on March 12.

    During the arrest, officers recovered a Glock 17 pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition from one of the suspects.

    Authorities also seized a red TVS motorcycle suspected to have been used as a getaway vehicle.

    In addition, distinctive clothing believed to have been worn by the suspects during the robbery was recovered.

    The suspects are being held at Ngong Police Station as investigations continue, with detectives seeking to establish whether they are linked to other criminal activities.

    Man sentenced to death for stealing two phones, Ksh30,000

    A Kibera court has sentenced a man to death after finding him guilty of two counts of robbery with violence committed in Nairobi’s Kawangware area.

    The man identified as Isaac Khanga was convicted of robbing two men of mobile phones worth Ksh39,000 and cash amounting to Ksh30,000 during incidents that occurred on the night of November 3, 2024, at around 11:00PM in the Madiaba area of Dagoretti Sub-county.

    According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP),  Khanga stole a Tecno phone valued at Ksh24,000 and Ksh30,000 in cash in the first incident.

    Shortly after, he robbed a second victim of a mobile phone worth Ksh15,000.

    In both cases, the court found that he had threatened to use actual violence immediately before the thefts.

    The court also heard that Khanga committed the crimes jointly with accomplices who were not before the court.

    While delivering her judgment, Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi emphasized that the death penalty remains legal in Kenya and has not been declared unconstitutional.

    Khanga, who was formally charged on November 15, 2024, received two death sentences, one for each count although one will be held in abeyance.

    DCI nabs trio behind brutal murders and robberies in Gem Yala

    Three notorious robbery with violence suspects who have terrorized residents of Gem Yala Sub-County and its environs have been arrested.

    The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that Albert Otieno, Farid Kimutai and John Okumu were apprehended after weeks of intense pursuit following a string of violent robberies and murders.

    The suspects were linked to a brutal attack on January 3, 2025, at a timber yard and hardware store near Ulumbi Junction along the Kisumu-Busia highway.

    During the incident, they mercilessly killed watchman Jesse Kalasinga, 40, before making away with assorted hardware goods.

    Their reign of terror continued on January 20, 2025, at Nyang’oma Market, where they vandalized a transformer, plunging the market into darkness.

    Under the cover of the outage, they savagely killed watchman Absalom Sande, 29, and left another guard, Francis Nyambese, 42, with serious injuries.

    They then broke into a phone accessories shop, stealing a Dell laptop, three smartphones, and other valuables.

    On January 29, 2025, the gang struck again at Yala Market, fatally injuring security guards Jesse Otieno, 35, and Edward Ochieng, 40.

    They proceeded to loot a shop, escaping with assorted airtime scratch cards, smartphones, and merchandise.

    After relentless investigations, detectives finally caught up with the trio, bringing their bloody spree to an end.

    The suspects are now in police custody and undergoing processing as they await their court appearance.

    Three notorious robbery suspects arrested, M16 rifle recovered

    A crack team of detectives from the DCI Headquarters Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Operation Support Unit (OSU), and Operation Action Team (OAT), with support from counterparts in Imenti Central and Buuri West Sub Counties, have apprehended three notorious robbery with violence suspects and recovered an M16 rifle.

    According to the DCI, the suspects are believed to be the masterminds behind a string of violent robberies in Imenti North and Buuri West Sub Counties, who have terrorized locals with their brazen criminal activities.

    In one of their reported crimes on September 5th, 2024, the suspects stormed a homestead in Magati village, stealing two prized cows, a Friesian and an Ayrshire.

    During the raid, they fired five rounds into the air, leaving the villagers in panic.

    On September 15th, 2024, the criminals struck again in Rugusu, stealing a dairy cow and loading it into a getaway pickup. During the incident, they shot the owner, a woman, for raising an alarm.

    Tragically, she was pronounced dead on arrival at Kiirua Mission Hospital.

    Their most recent act involved attempting to torch a four-bedroom house.

    When the arson attempt failed, they fired at the door, hitting the homeowner three times in the abdomen and also injuring his wife. The couple remains in serious condition at Kiirua Mission Hospital.

    Following their violent spree, detectives moved with precision to track down the suspects, Patrick Muriera M’mbijiwe, 35, and Kenneth Muthethia Kiriinya, alias Kiroria.

    The suspects eventually led the officers to Kianjuri village, where they claimed to have buried the firearm in a concealed location.

    At the site, officers recovered an M16 model (SAR) rifle, two magazines, 67 rounds of 5.5mm ammunition, a black jacket, two gunny bags, and a brown hat, all concealed in a hole.

    In a shocking revelation, investigations revealed that Cpl Dominic Munene Peter, a police officer based in Marsabit County, had been colluding with the criminals to facilitate their missions.

    He was promptly arrested before attempting to flee.

    Ballistic reports have linked the recovered firearm to cartridges found at the crime scenes, completing the case.

    Four police officers among six arrested for robbing accountant Ksh2.2M

    Six suspects including four police officers believed to have trailed the accountant of Rophine International School from a bank in Utawala Monday afternoon before breaking into his car and disappearing with Ksh 2.2 million have been arrested.

    The six, three of whom are a police sergeant, a corporal and a constable from Kasarani Police Station, a police constable from Ruai police station and two civilians were arrested at the Kasarani Police Station by DCI officers based in Nairobi.

    A total of Ksh 473,000 believed to be part of the stolen amount was also recovered from the six, who were ambushed in the stations official police vehicle.

    In the early incident reported at Mihang’o Police Station at 4pm Monday, the accountant had withdrawn an amount in excess of the Ksh 2.2 million that was stolen, intended for the payment of casual workers at the said school.

    Using a saloon car Reg. No. KCR 959D, the suspects were on his trail right from when he parked his car outside the bank to when he left with the cash.

    Meanwhile, DCI officers from Nairobi region and Kayole obtained crucial actionable intelligence and proceeded to Utawala area in pursuit of a suspect they had identified from CCTV analysis.

    On arrival, the team learnt that the suspect had been picked moments earlier by unknown people driving in a Subaru car.

    Further intelligence led the team to the Kasarani station, where the six were ambushed in a GK vehicle and forced to identify themselves in the presence of the Sub-County Police Commander, his deputy and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer.

    They were identified as Sgt Antony Ndegwa Anwal, Cpl Daniel Lekakeny Sunkuli, PC Simon Macharia Maina (of DCI Kasarani), PC Antony Mwenda (KPS Ruai), Lukas Magwaga and Young Wakise.

    The DCI sub-county head confirmed that the arrested officers were neither on official duty to Utawala nor working under his instructions.

    Upon search, Ksh 350,000 was found in the car and another Ksh 123,000 retrieved from their pockets.

    Further two motor vehicles, one belonging to the Ruai officer and another belonging to the 5th suspect (Magwaga) which were parked at the yard were detained.

    All the suspects placed in custody as further investigations continue.

    Suspects linked to armed robberies in 4 counties arrested

    Police have arrested two suspects linked to a series of armed robberies in Nairobi Nakuru, Kiambu, Murang’a, and Kajiado counties.

    According to DCI, two firearms used in the various robberies have been recovered.

    The suspect identified as Ezekiel Kiarie who has been on the run for the past few days was arrested along Limuru road as he escaped with his family from the city to his rural home in Dundori,  Nyandarua County.

    Detectives intercepted a Mitsubishi canter registration number KAM 231J, that was ferrying the suspect, his family members, and their belongings to Nyandarua, after realizing that sleuths were closing in on them.

    After conducting a search in the vehicle, a Czeska pistol serial number B022944 with a magazine loaded with 2 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a CZ P-07 pistol serial number C626319 with a magazine loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm calibre were recovered.

    The firearms have been linked to various incidents where victims have lost money immediately after making transactions in banks.

    Two suspects David Mwangi alias Mzae and Ezekiel Kiarie Njoki are currently in custody being interrogated in relation to their crimes, before being arraigned in court Thursday.
