    Ebenyo cruises to victory to defend National Cross Country title

    2023 World silver medalist in the 10,000 m Daniel Ebenyo Simiu stormed to victory to defend the 10 km senior men’s title during the National Cross Country Championship held on Saturday at the Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu County.

    Ebenyo of the National Police Service sprinted in the last lap to cross the finish line in 30:11.1, followed by Kevin Chesang of Central Rift in 30 minutes and 12 seconds.

    South Rift’s Dennis Kipkoech placed 3rd in 30:13.0 minutes. Ahead of Shadrack Koech, Weldon Langat and Robert Koech completed the top six places to book their tickets for the January 10th World Cross Country Championships in the USA.

    Over 400 athletes competed in Saturday’s championships.

  • Kiprono leads North Rift to 8km clean sweep at the National Cross Country

    Emmanuel Kiprono led team North Rift to a clean podium sweep of the 8km under 20 men during the National Cross Country Championship cum trials held on Saturday at the Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu county.

    Kiprono crossed the finish line at 24:22.5, followed by Frankline Kibet and Andrew Alamisi Kiptoo in 2nd and 3rd positions after clocking 24:25.4 and 24:29, respectively.

    Edwin Elkana, Kevin Kiprop and Andrew Kiptoo completed the top six positions to qualify for the World Athletics Championships.

    Simiu and Jepkorir ready to defend National Cross country titles in Eldoret

    2023 Word 10,000m silver  medalist Daniel Simiu and Brilliant Jepkorir will return to the Eldoret Sports Club this Saturday 25th October as they seek to defend their 10km National cross country titles as well as punch tickets for  the global championship.

    Simiu of Kenya Police is the man to beat in a star studded men’s field as he returns to the venue where he bagged the national title early February this year as he faces stiff challenge from 10,000m reigning national champion Silas Senchura of Nairobi region.

    Others in contention for the men’s title include youth sensational Benson Kiplangat and Ishmael Rokitto among other formidable opponents.

    Equally the women’s race is blow wide open with Kenya Prisons’s Jepkorir facing off with  Lillian Kassait,Mercy Chebet,2013 world silver medalist in 5000m Mercy Cherono among others.

    Athletics Kenya will use the one day championship to select a formidable team for early next year’s World Cross Country championships set for Tehasse,USA.

    Other races will be the 8km men and 6km women under 20  as well as the 2km loop with over 400 athletes scrambling for about 30 slots up for grabs.
