Jardin Majorelle is a famous historical and tourist site at the heart of  a densely populated major economic tourist hub city of Marrakech Western part of Morocco.

The Grand Stadium of Marrakech, which was allocated 8 matches at the ongoing AFCON, is among the venues found in the Marrakech City.

The park, which is located in the southern Moroccan desert oasis of Marrakech, provides the visitor with a most enchanting, even mystical, garden experience.

Established over forty years ago, the garden complex is a labyrinth composed of bisecting pathways and interconnected levels and Moorish and Art Deco-inspired structures.

Composed of an opulent array of exotic plants and trees, the museum was named after French-born painter Jacques Majorelle.

A shop inside the Marrakech Medina square

Marrakech Medina, which comprises both modernity and traditional items, is another conspicuous place to visit before leaving Marrakech city in the northeast of Morocco.

From household items to industrial goods and equipment, the Medina is always a flock with tourists throughout the day.

The market began as early as the 16th century as a meeting place, as people needed restaurants and the owners needed entertainment.

And this is how the square changed from an area where people used to meet to the current busy, iconic place in Marrakech.

Harambee Stars end six-winless run as McCarthy tastes victory

Harambee Stars registered its first win under coach Benni McCarthy, beating Chad 2-1, in a FIFA international friendly played yesterday evening at the grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.

Emmanuel Osoro, who earned his 1st international call-up, put Harambee Stars ahead in the 18th minute, before David Sakwa doubled the lead shortly before the half-time whistle.

Several changes by the homesite of the day in the second stanza revived their game, and they were rewarded in the 60th minute when Aki Mammar pulled 1 back.

The result ended Kenya’s six-match winless streak since January this year, when they beat host Tanzania by a similar scoreline at Gamboni Stadium.

The two sides played to a barren draw in the 1st encounter in the same venue last Saturday.

Keny used the match to prep for the African Nations Championship, which will be held jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 2nd August this year.

All set for CAF awards in Marrakech as Salah,Osimhen and Hakimi battle for top gong

Preparations are complete for this year’s Confederation of African Football Awards, which will be held in Morocco for the second year in a row, but this time round in the tourist city of Marrakech on December 11, 2023.

The Monday night gala will mark a successful year for Morocco as it has been confirmed as the host of the FIFA World Cup in 2030, besides staging the top most continental football tournament, the AFCON, in 2025, which will be their 2nd time and 1st since 1988.

Three final nominees have been selected for each of the 14 categories, with the top two being the male and female player of the year awards.

The ultimate winner of each category will be decided following votes from a panel consisting of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals from member associations, head coaches and captains of member associations, and clubs involved in the group stages of the inter club competitions.

Liverpool and Egypt Striker Mohammed Salah will battle for the men’s player of the year award as he seeks it for the third time after winning it back-to-back in 2017 and 2018 and finishing second in last year’s award behind his former teammate Sadio Mane.

Napoli and Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen are another contender for the gong, yearning for the first time and the first Nigerian to win it since Nwanko Kanu in 1999. He was the key factor as he netted 26 goals to steer Napoli to its first Serie A title last season after a 33-year wait.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi was instrumental in Morocco’s 4th finish at last year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Barcelona striker and Nigerian Assisat Oshoala will be in search of the 6th title in the female award alongside Thembi Kgatlana from South Africa and Racing Louisville and Zambian Barbara Banda, who plays her professional football in Shanghai Shengli.

Marrakech will host this year’s IMF-World Bank annual meetings

The famous tourist city of Marrakech in Morocco will host this year’s International Monetary Fund (IMF)-World Bank annual meeting, set for 9th till 15th of next month.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, in an exclusive interview with the Moroccan News Agency (MAP), clarified on Monday that the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank will take place as planned on the same date in Marrakech.

“The announcement we are making together with the Minister of Finance and the World Bank President is that the meetings will go forward as planned” in Marrakech on October 9–15, Georgieva.” Affirmed Georgieva

“I want to thank the Moroccan authorities and the Moroccan people” for the attention paid to the meetings, said the IMF chief, who takes part in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

“We are very grateful to Morocco for its hospitality”. We will do our utmost as institutions to be of help to Morocco, which was hit by a powerful earthquake.”

“It is a message of solidarity with Morocco and with each and every country that is faced with shocks because we do live in a more shock-prone world and we need to face it together,” Georgieva added.

The annual meetings will be attended by, among others, central bankers, finance ministers, the private sector, civil society, the media, and academicians who will discuss and deliberate on global issues, including the world economic outlook, global financial stability, poverty eradication, inclusive economic growth, and climate change.

For the first time in 50 years, Africa will host the meeting.

Normal operations have resumed in Marrakech city, with schools reopening following a 6.8-magnitude earthquake, that struck the El-Huz and Amzmiz regions near the Atlas Mountains early this month.

Marrakech boasts a wealth of historic treasures, including World Heritage sites such as Ksar Bahia, and is among the prime tourist destinations in Africa.
