    Explosive mortar artillery shell discovered in Kikuyu

    Police officers from Kikuyu and bomb squad specialists have camped in Nduma following the discovery of an 80mm artillery shell, suspected to have been left behind from the colonial era.

    The device was discovered by a resident, David Muiruri, while tilling one of his farms.

    The officers have since carried away the explosive due to its high potential for destruction and are currently searching for a safer location for controlled detonation.

    While confirming the incident, Kikuyu Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Ndege said the device is highly explosive and urged Kenyans to exercise extra caution when handling suspicious objects.

    13 arrested as police recover goods looted during June 25 protests

    Police have arrested 13 suspects and recovered a cache of stolen items in a sweeping crackdown targeting looters behind the chaos that rocked parts of the country during the June 25 demonstrations.

    In Mbeere South, officers from DCI and Kiritiri Police Station arrested two women, Francisca Mwingi and Linda Karimi, after recovering a stolen white water tank with a metal casing. The tank was allegedly looted from Kiritiri Market at the height of the protests.

    Elsewhere, in Maai Mahiu, Naivasha Sub-County, seven individuals were arrested in connection with the ransacking of Transit Hotel. Police recovered a range of items, including two curtains, three pillows with pillowcases, a curtain rod, and two large sufurias.

    The suspects were identified as Raphael Njagi, Kelvin Kahuha, David Kinyanjui, Susan Njeri Karanja, Grace Mugure, Johanna Gichigo, and Joseph Nganga Njambi.

    All suspects are expected to face charges that include theft, arson, and malicious damage to property.

    In Nairobi, detectives conducting a parallel probe in Kikuyu and Dagoretti intercepted a Nissan matatu believed to have ferried rioters from the Gachui-Mutuini area to Dagoretti Centre.

    Authorities say the group stormed a police post, where they allegedly stole police firearms and uniforms, assaulted officers, and torched the facility.

    Four suspects were arrested in connection with the Nairobi incident including Sammy Ndungu Kariuki alias Ndoji (the group’s mobliliser), Lawrence Kariuki Ndungu, who was captured on CCTV with a stolen police firearm, Ali Shama Tabet alias Alibaba, and Simon Njoroge Hiuhu.

    Police say the suspects were found in possession of items looted from shops during the protests.

    Investigations are ongoing as police intensify efforts to apprehend more suspects and recover property stolen during the unrest.

    Two dead, 10 others in critical condition in Kiambu accident

    Two people have lost their lives after a church bus they traveling in lost control and landed in a ditch at Gitaru slip road along James Gichuru Rironi Highway Thursday night.

    Ten other passengers in the 59 bus seater sustained serious injuries and 40 others with slight injuries and were rushed to various hospitals in Kikuyu and Kabete Constituencies.

    According to eye witnesses, the bus which was ferrying worshipers from Western part of the Country experienced break failure and came to rest in a ditch to avoid colliding with a trailer that had obstructed the Gitaru slip road.

    This comes few hours after KENHA issued diversion notice to allow the Chinese contractor finish the remaining portion of the road to ease traffic at the junction of James Gichuru, Rironi Highway and Western and Southern Bypass.

    The wreckage of the bus was towed to Kikuyu Police Station.
