    KDC, Lamu County identify seven sectors for investment

    The Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) and Lamu County are preparing to attract investments in seven key sectors ahead of  the 21st Annual Lamu Cultural Festival.

    The two are expected to hold a joint investment forum later this month which will act as a platform linking investors and other entrepreneurs with potential areas for long term investment within the county.

    “With its rich history, stunning natural beauty, and untapped potential, Lamu is a distinctive investment destination. The investment forum is an opportunity to showcase Lamu’s unique strengths and attract the investments that will stimulate development in the region,” said Norah Ratemo, KDC Director General.

    Areas targeted for investments include Lamu County Aggregation and Industrial Park, cotton processing ginnery, fish processing plant and cashew nut factory through Public Private Partnership.

    Others include tourism, financing avenues for various projects under the Lamu Port South- Sudan, Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor, and Lamu Special Economic Zone (LSEZ) and county livestock feed reserves, disease-free zones and fodder production.

    “We are confident that the investment forum will stimulate and support the growth of Lamu and the broader Coastal economy, with direct material benefits for our people. We have an ambitious goal to creates employment opportunities for our people, and we believe this is a sustainable way of going about it,” added Issa Timamy, Lamu County Governor.

    The forum slated for later this month will bring together local and international investors, investment professionals, government agencies, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to explore and harness investment opportunities in Lamu County.

    “We aim to unlock the potentials of Lamu County by link investors with opportunities and financial arrangements under the public private partnership arrangements,” added Ratemo.

    Ex-MP Sakwa Bunyasi appointed KDC Board Chair

    Dr. Sakwa Bunyasi has been appointed as new Chairman of the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC).

    In a statement, KDC Board said the former Nambale MP brings a wealth of expertise and experience from both the public and the private sector.

    “He has a proven record as an exceptional leader with a visionary approach and dedication to economic development, which align perfectly with KDC’s strategic goals,” said the Board.

    Welcoming the news, Hon Sakwa Bunyasi said he was deeply honoured to assume the role of the Chairman of the Board at KDC.

    “I look forward to working closely with the board members and the dedicated team at the Corporation to ensure we achieve our objectives and help the Country’s growth in manufacturing, increase exports and attract foreign direct investments,” he said.

    At the same time, KDC board has appointed Ms. Norah Ratemo as the Director General.

    With over 15 years of experience in Credit Risk Management, Ms. Ratemo holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration, with Finance Option from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a Bachelor of Commerce with an Accounting Option.

    The KDC Director General Ms. Norah Ratemo. She has been the acting DG since December 2022 after the exit of Mr. Christopher Huka.

    She is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Institute of Certified Investment Financial Analysts (ICIFA).

    The government in addition appointed new members to the Board namely; Ms. Faith Mwaura, Ms. Sigee Koech, Ms. Caroline Muigai, and Mr. Benjamin Muketha.

    They join PS, Abubakar Hassan Abubakar, State Department for Investments promotion, Ministry of Investments Trade and Industry, Michael A. Kahika, alternate Director to the Cabinet Secretary National Treasury and Planning and Judith Kerich.
