Juja MP George Koimburi charged with staging abduction

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi was Wednesday charged with orchestrating his abduction.

At the Milimani Law Courts, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), represented by Prosecution Counsel Victor Owiti and Nora Achieng, informed the court that the lawmaker had staged the abduction to avoid arrest and arraignment at Kiambu Law Courts, where he was scheduled to face four counts related to land fraud.

The court heard that Koimburi conspired to defeat justice in Mugutha area, Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County, on 25th May 2025.

Additionally, the MP faces a separate charge of publishing false information.

On 7th June 2025, at Karen Hospital, Prosecution told the court that Koimburi issued a press statement via YouTube claiming he had been abducted and tortured by criminals, arguing that the statement was purportedly false and intended to cause panic to the public.

Koimburi pleaded not guilty before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh 300,000 with three contact persons.

The case is scheduled for mention on 5th August 2025 for further directions.

A Nairobi Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Juja MP George Koimburi and two other suspects for failing to appear in court on Wednesday for plea taking in the alleged stage-managed abduction case.

This comes as four others, Grace Nduta Wairimu (Kanyenya-ini ward MCA), Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana and Cyrus Muhia, were charged before Milimani Law Courts with conspiracy to defeat justice and giving false information to a police officer.

They were released on a Ksh 300,000 bond. The matter will be mentioned on July 30, 2025.

Authorities allege the abduction was staged to prevent his arrest in connection with a land fraud case at Kiambu Law Courts.

Four suspects linked to the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi have been released on a cash bail of Ksh300,000 each, even as investigations into the incident continue.

The suspects were arraigned in court Friday Morning following their arrest in connection with the controversial incident, in which police allege that the abduction was staged for political mileage.

Among those arrested is Murang’a Kanyenyaini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, who remains a person of interest in the case.

She was taken into custody on May 29, 2025, a day after detectives recovered a Subaru Forester believed to have been used in the alleged abduction.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), digital and CCTV evidence placed Grace Nduta at a popular entertainment joint in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, alongside Koimburi on the night of the alleged abduction—contradicting her claims of being in Kangema for church services and political events.

DCI officers said Koimburi, who was later admitted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi, has declined to give a statement to the police.

Investigators had earlier sought 15 days to detain the suspects as they pieced together the motive behind the incident.

MP Koimburi alleged abduction: Three suspects arraigned in Court

Three suspects have been arraigned in court in connection with the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.

Police, who are continuing with investigations, are seeking 15 days to detain the suspects as they work to uncover the motive behind the dramatic incident, which has sparked mixed reactions across political circles.

Police, who have so far interviewed and recorded statements from five individuals, claim that the MP staged his abduction for political gains.

Murang’a Kanyenyaini MCA Grace Nduta is in police custody as part of the ongoing probe.

She was arrested a day after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said they had recovered a private vehicle allegedly used in the abduction, a Subaru Forester, on Tuesday in Juja Township.

“The attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been drawn to reports circulating on social media on the alleged abduction of Grace Nduta Wairimu. We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu, MCA representing Kanyenya-ini ward in Murang’a County, was arrested today May 29, 2025 as part of an ongoing investigation on the stage-managed abduction of Hon George Koimburi”, DCI said in a statement.

“It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night”, the DCI added pledging to give further updates.

Koimburi was taken to Karen Hospital in Nairobi, where he is admitted and has allegedly declined to record a statement.

  • Wetang’ula orders probe into disappearance and reappearance of Juja MP Koimburi

Wetang’ula orders probe into disappearance and reappearance of Juja MP Koimburi

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called for an immediate parliamentary inquiry into the mysterious disappearance and reappearance of Juja MP George Koimburi, amid growing unease over the safety of lawmakers and rising national security threats.

Delivering a communication from the Chair on Tuesday afternoon, Speaker Wetang’ula confirmed that Hon. Koimburi, who was reported missing on Sunday, was later found alive in a coffee plantation under unclear circumstances and is currently hospitalized in Nairobi.

“I have this morning instructed the Chair of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security to liaise with the Inspector General of Police and relevant security agencies to provide preliminary findings to the House,” said the Speaker.

He added that the hospital treating the MP had reportedly denied access to all visitors, including detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), following instructions from the legislator’s family, a development that has further deepened the mystery surrounding the case.

“The facility is reportedly not allowing visitors, even officers from the DCI who were keen to establish what may have transpired,” said Wetang’ula.

The Speaker further directed members of the Security Committee to visit Hon. Koimburi in hospital and provide the House with an update on his condition.

But even as MPs seek answers, Speaker Wetang’ula cautioned against viewing the Juja legislator’s case in isolation.

He linked it to a worrying pattern of insecurity targeting elected leaders, referencing the recent fatal shooting of Kabondo Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were.

“These cases call for a thorough, coordinated investigation. We must demand answers, not just as leaders but on behalf of all Kenyans,” he said.

The Speaker also issued a stern advisory to lawmakers and the public at large to take their personal security seriously.

“Be vigilant. Be conscious of your surroundings and the company you keep, to ensure your safety is not compromised,” he warned.

Juja MP Koimburi found dumped in coffee plantation

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi was found early Monday morning abandoned in a coffee plantation in the Kibichoi area of Kiambu County.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and those responsible for the act have not yet been identified.

Koimburi reportedly told authorities he was abducted and beaten by unknown assailants who grabbed him from outside a church in Kiambu on Sunday afternoon.

Police have denied any involvement in the incident but confirmed that investigations are ongoing following a report filed by the MP’s family on Sunday.

When found, Koimburi was unconscious, still wearing the navy blue suit he had on during the abduction.

Witnesses report that he was picked up by an ambulance and taken to Hospital for treatment.

Yesterday, Ann Koimburi, the MP’s wife, said that her husband was confronted by two men disguised as church worshippers.

According to her, the men forcibly placed him into a silver Subaru Forester with an altered number plate, allegedly to conceal the vehicle’s identity.

The men, dressed in plain clothes, did not identify themselves during the incident.

The motive behind the abduction remains unknown.
