No session held to impeach Governor Guyo – County Assembly Clerk

The County Assembly of Isiolo has refuted claims that it held a session on Thursday to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Abdi Guyo.

In a strongly worded statement, County Assembly Clerk Salad Boru Gutracha described the reports circulating on social media and some news outlets as “false, misleading, and politically motivated.”

“No such sitting has been convened, held, or facilitated by this office,” Boru clarified, adding that the Assembly is fully bound by active court orders prohibiting any such action at this time.

“There are active court orders explicitly prohibiting the County Assembly from advancing the impeachment proceedings against the Governor at this time. The Assembly is fully bound by these orders and remains committed to upholding the rule of law and constitutional due processes,” stated Boru.

The Clerk also noted that the Assembly has not issued any official notice, order paper, or assigned staff to facilitate an impeachment session.

According to Boru, the current impeachment reports are part of a wider agenda of politically motivated misinformation aimed at misleading the public and undermining legitimate Assembly procedures.

He reiterated that he remains the substantive Clerk and that anyone else claiming to hold the position does not have legal authority.

“It is important to clarify that the substantive Clerk of the County Assembly remains one Mr Salad Boru, and anyone purporting to act as such has no legal footing to facilitate any such sitting nor act on behalf of this office,” he stated.

He insisted that the impeachment of a sitting governor is a constitutional process that cannot be lawfully conducted through informal announcements or press conferences.

“The public is advised to disregard any allegations of an impeachment process having been undertaken,” he said. “It cannot be lawfully conducted through press conferences or informal declarations.”

Isiolo MCA hospitalized after being shot outside local hotel

A member of the Isiolo County Assembly is receiving treatment after being shot twice by an unidentified gunman outside a local hotel on Wednesday night.

Burat MCA, Nicholas Lorot, was in the company of four other MCAs when the assailant, dressed in a helmet and reflector jacket, approached him while he was seated in a private vehicle and opened fire at close range.

Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Christopher Siele confirmed the incident, stating that one bullet struck Lorot’s collarbone while another severed his middle finger.

The attacker fled the scene on a motorbike parked across the road.

The injured MCA was rushed to Kirua Mission Hospital in Meru County, where he is reported to be in stable condition and responding well to treatment.

Security agencies have launched investigations into the attack, with authorities urging members of the public to provide any useful information that could help track down the suspect.

“Two spent cartridges were recovered from the scene and will aid in determining the type of firearm used,” said DCC Siele.

Condemning the attack, Siele called for calm and assured residents that security teams were intensifying patrols to enhance safety in the area.

“We urge residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting any individuals in possession of illegal firearms. Only authorized officers should handle weapons and anyone found with an illegal firearm will face the full force of the law,” he warned.

Authorities have pledged to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to bring the assailant to justice.
