    EALA women caucus urged to fast-track women’s economic empowerment legislation

    The First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto, has asked members of the East Africa Legislative Assembly Women Caucus to fast-track legislation in support of women’s economic empowerment in the region.

    By acknowledging the importance of gender equity and the need to accelerate women’s empowerment in our nations, we will catalyse development in all aspects of life and ultimately transform families, communities, East African Member States, and the whole continent.

    The East Africa Legislative Assembly Women Causus is working towards emerging as a powerful voice in the articulation of the East African women’s agenda of justice, equality, equity, and accountability in the EAC integration process.

    The First Lady urged the causus members to use their platforms to empower women, utilise our region’s youthful workforce, and protect our children.

    By jointly utilising our human capital and natural resources productively, the legislators will chart a new course towards a brighter future for the citizens of the East African Community.

    Speaking at the event, Hon. Peninah Malonza, Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, The Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), and Regional Development, expressed the causus inspiration from the commitment by the first lady to advance the economic empowerment of women in Kenya.

    The legislators present will be exposed to the programs of Mama Rachel Ruto, including an experience in table banking.

    Other leaders present in the visit included Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of EAC Affairs, Republic of Uganda; Dr. Anne Itto, Chairperson of the EALA Caucus; Amb. Fatuma Ndangiza, Secretary General of the EALA Caucus; and Mwanaisha Chidzuga, Deputy Government Spokesperson of the Republic of Kenya.

    Rachel Ruto awarded the KISS Humanitarian Award in India

    First Lady Rachel Ruto has been awarded the KISS Humanitarian Award at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences in Bhubaneswar, India.

    The prestigious award is presented annually by the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences to recognise and felicitate individuals for their exemplary and outstanding service to humanity worldwide.

    It is a symbol of hope, compassion and altruism, and its recognition of acts of kindness is a mechanism that inspires others to follow the same path.

    In her speech, Mama Rachel Ruto highlighted the urgent need for unity in addressing global challenges such as climate change and poverty.

    With a strong commitment to women, children and vulnerable communities, she emphasised the importance of financial inclusion, climate action and promoting youth empowerment.
