Azimio, Kenya Kwanza talks to resume Monday

The talks between Azimio la Umoja One Kenya and Kenya Kwanza coalitions are set to resume on Monday.

The two sides are set to agree on the agenda of the meeting given that the two political teams have different sets of issues they believe are critical in the bi-partisan talks.

However, some members of the dialogue team have continued to drum up support for their agenda ahead of the resumed dialogue at the Bomas of Kenya.

The dialogue team co-chaired by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of Azimio and his Kenya Kwanza counterpart Majority leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichungwah are set to reveal the agenda of the talks after the technical committee from both coalitions were tasked with harmonizing the issues raised by both parties.

However, Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi who is a member of the newly formed dialogue team stated that the issues they would want to converse with their counterpart are the cost of Living, an Audit of last year’s elections, inclusivity in national Affairs and respect for Political parties.

This is despite the ruling Kenya Kwanza team vowing to ensure that those issues will not be a subject of discussion.

Moreover, the member has gone against the guidelines set by the dialogue team who were instructed not to divulge any information or stance taken by the committee.

Meanwhile, a section of Ukambani leaders led by Parliamentary Service Commission member Johnston Muthama has maintained it is high time the country moved forward and cool down the political temperatures.

The dialogue team after being formally legalized has 60 days to present a report before President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Amolo Odinga over their resolution and also table it in Parliament for consideration and adoption.

Kenya Kwanza, Azimio MPs to pass motion on talks

The questions surrounding the legality of the new bi-partisan talks will be answered Wednesday.

This is after the Majority leader of the National Assembly Kimani Ichungwah and his Minority counterpart Opiyo Wandayi officially submitted a motion seeking to legalize the talks between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza.

The motion read by the Majority leader and co-sponsored by his Minority counterpart Opiyo Wandayi stipulated the terms for talks that will run for next 60 days as stipulated in the motion.

Key among them is when the new bipartisan team will finalize its report it will submit to the leaders of Azimio and Kenya Kwanza as well as Parliament for adoption.

Moreover, the Committee has resolved to receive memorandums from the public, professional bodies and non-governmental organization for review and consideration.

The motion submitted by the two this afternoon before Members of Parliament will be up for debate on Wednesday afternoon where the legislators will have their say over the motion.

The talks which have been welcomed by most of the members will see political lines drawn in the house especially when it comes to the agenda of the talks with secretariats of both factions fronting different issues.

This comes as Attorney General Justin Muturi maintained that whatever the two parties will agree upon his office will consider their resolutions keenly and ensure they remain within the boundaries of the Constitution.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has scheduled the debate of the motion for Wednesday afternoon.

Denounce violence before talks begin, Ruto tells opposition

President William Ruto says the opposition must denounce violence before the 10- member bi-partisan dialogue committee can begin talks.

Acknowledging sentiments by Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga that he was not interested in joining President Ruto’s administration, the Head of State says he has instructed his team to talk with the opposition but a political handshake and violence experienced during anti-government protests are off the table.

And of his meeting with the political leadership in Mount Kenya on Tuesday, President William Ruto maintained that the anticipated dialogue between government and Opposition would only happen under specified parameters.

Reacting to the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga’s sentiments, the President called on the Opposition to go a step further and denounce violence witnessed in the recent anti-government protests.

Revealing that his team had firm instructions on what should be the agenda of the Kenya Kwanza side in the talks, President Ruto says he will not back down on the non-negotiables.

On the thorny issue of the cost of living, the President says his administration is implementing its plan of subsidizing farm inputs and the efforts are bearing fruit.

On Tuesday, the President is also expected to hold a Cabinet meeting at the Sagana State Lodge.

We support talks but decorum must prevail, Orengo says

Siaya leadership is in full support of the proposed talks between Azimio la Umoja and Kenya kwanza teams but insists that decorum must prevail, Governor James Orengo has said.

Orengo said that whereas Kenyans are yearning for fruitful discussions that will see the country forge ahead, Kenya Kwanza leaders must stop engaging in talks that demean opposition leader, Raila Odinga.

He was speaking at Boro market in Alego/Usonga constituency after opening a new modern market which was constructed by the county government.

Governor Orengo, at the same time, called on the police to stop using excessive force while quelling demonstrations.

“In democratic countries, when there are demonstrations, police do not use guns” said Governor Orengo.

Orengo said that all Kenyans are equal hence the notion that this was a country of shareholders must not be entertained.

The Governor, who was accompanied by, among others county secretary, Joseph Ogutu, also toured several projects being undertaken by his government, among them the construction of a rice mill in Usonga ward.
