Missing lawyer and blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia appears in court

Missing lawyer and blogger Ndiang’ui  Kinyagia has finally appeared in a Nairobi court, moments after he resurfaced.

Family lawyer Wahome Thuku shared an update on Thursday morning regarding Kinyagia’s whereabouts, putting to rest speculation about his alleged abduction.

Thuku said Kinyagia, who has been missing since June 21, had reached out to his family and confirmed he was well and had gone into hiding, fearing for his life.

“Mr Ndiangui, who went missing last week, has contacted the family and that he is well, healthy and safe. Mr Ndiangui contacted a family member on Tuesday evening from an undisclosed location. Ndiangui indicated to the family member that he had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations”, Thuku said in a statement.

The blogger had earlier indicated he was willing to present himself to the DCI and appear before a court of law, but only if his safety is assured.

“Mr Ndiangui has indicated that he is ready and willing to present himself to the DCI and to be presented before any court of law when his safety and security is guaranteed. We have therefore advised him to present himself before the High Court at Milimani Law Courts today, Thursday the 3rd July 2025 at 11 am”, he explained.

The Law Society of Kenya has also been informed.

” This information has been duly communicated to the Law Society of Kenya for analysis and presentation in court. We wish to remind the public that the DCI broke into his house in his absence and carried away several items and that the family reported the subsequent events at Kinoo Police Station”, Thuku added.

This development came as the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, was expected to appear in court on Thursday at 11 a.m., following a directive issued on Tuesday by High Court Judge Chacha Mwita.

Amin had insisted that Kinyagia, who is a person of interest for allegedly publishing inflammatory material, is not in the custody of the National Police Service (NPS).

“Wherever he is, I urge him to submit himself to the nearest police station”, he said.

The judge on Tuesday directed Amin to present himself in person to explain the whereabouts of Kinyagia.
