    President Ruto nominates Kepha Nyamweya Omae to head NCIC

    President William Ruto has nominated Kepha Nyamweya Omae as Chairperson of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

    Nyamweya, who succeeds Samuel Kobia, will serve alongside seven other members. The names have been forwarded to Parliament for vetting and approval.

    The positions were advertised following the expiry of the six-year, non-renewable term of the current commissioners on November 17, 2025.

    In a statement, the Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff, Felix Koskei, said the nominations followed recommendations from the respective selection panel to fill the vacant slots.

    Those nominated as members of the commission are Ms. Josphine Kirion Eragae (Isiolo) Mr. Joseph K. Nguyo (Nyeri) Mr. Jackson Swadi Kedogo (Vihiga)  Dr. Samuel Mwachiro Mwawasi (Taita Taveta) Ms. Irene Chepoisho Tulel, HSC ( West Pokot) Mr. Hassan Billow Ahmed (Wajir) and Ms. Jerusah Mwaathime Michael from Kitui.

    Koskei, on behalf of the Executive urged Parliament to fast-track the vetting process, citing the key role played by the commission in promoting cohesion.

    The appeal also comes amid rising political temperatures ahead of the 2027 elections, with politicians trading personal attacks.

    “In light of the Commission’s consequential mandate to foster national m cohesion and unity as well as advance peaceful coexistence by confronting ethnic discrimination and hate speech. The head of state and government urges the National Assembly to accord these nominations consideration on a priority basis”. Koskei stated.

    Don’t use social media for extremist purposes, NCIC tells youth

    The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has called upon Kenyans especially the youth to desist from using social media propagate hate speech and extremist ideologies.

    Speaking to KBC Channel 1, NCIC Director of Investigations James Wanyande revealed that the commissiom has received overwhelming complaints from citizens about the vice on digital platforms which continue to threaten social cohesion.

    “As head of investigations I would urge the youth to have responsible use of social media. As a Commission we are receiving complaints on hate speech through social media. Use social media responsibly, for monetization purposes and not for propagating hate speech and extremist ideologies, he said.

    He spoke ahead of the Transgenerational Conversations, a forum led by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) in collaboration with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

     

    The event will take place at Farmview Hotel, starting from 7:30PM, and will be broadcast live on KBC Channel 1.

    Meanwhile, Busia Deputy County Commissioner Solomon Komen has assured Busia County residents of their security and working diligently to ensure effective coordination of Governement functions.

     

    “As NGAOs we are working diligently to ensure effective coordination of government functions from security to other related sectors within Busia County,” said DCC Komen.

    The initiative was started by the commission following the GenZ’s spirit during last years June protests in calling for accountability, good governance including political decency and integrity.

    DP calls for cohesion as Govt boosts security in Lamu

    The politics of Mt. Kenya took center stage on Thursday during the burial of Raphael Munyua, who until his death was the Deputy Governor of Lamu County.

    While Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua steered clear of politics instead called for unity of purpose, central Kenya leaders present urged him not to abandon his quest for unity and development of the larger Mt. Kenya region.

    They assured him of their unwavering support despite constant criticism from various quarters saying he has been bold enough in advancing the interest of the mountain despite constant attacks.

    They have called for the unity of all communities in advancing the nation’s development agenda.

    The leaders emphasized that despite the ongoing political challenges, it is crucial for leaders and citizens alike to prioritize the collective good.

    During his address, DP Gachagua highlighted the significance of maintaining peace in Lamu, a region endowed with rich resources, including vast opportunities in the blue economy.

    He called on the diverse communities within the county to come together, noting that it’s only through collective action that Lamu reach its full potential.

    Addressing concerns raised by some local leaders regarding the use of sniffer dogs at roadblocks, the Deputy President reassured the public of their vital role in enhancing security.
