Spain overcame France’s late surge to qualify for UEFA Nations League Final

Spain had to defend deep to overcome a late comeback to beat France 5-4 and secure their place in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday, against Iberian rivals Portugal yesterday night in the last semi final at the MHPArena in Stuttgart Germany.

Niko Williams opened the scoring in the 22nd minute the for La Roja with an assist from Mikel Oyarzabal,as they attempt to become the first nation to retain the championship.

Williams provided another assist for Mikel Merino, who doubled the lead three minutes later.

Defending World Cup champions were saved the blushes as the 3rd goal by Dean Huijsen, deep into stoppage time in the 1st half was ruled offside by the VAR to head into the break trailing 2-0.

Sensational teen Yamal extended Spain’s lead with a 3rd goal from a spot kick 9 minutes into the 2nd half before Kyllian Mbappé also pulled one back for the French from the spot four minutes later.

Yamal completed his brace in the 67th minute after being set up by Pedro Porro.

Mbappé provided an assist to Rayan Cherki, who reduced the deficit in the 79th minute.

Dani Vivian put the ball in his own net for the French 3rd in the 84th minute.

Kolo Mouani scored the 4th for Les Bleus after receiving an assist in dying minutes but wasn’t enough to send the match to extra time.

Spain will play Portugal in Sunday’s final in Germany.

The Portuguese sealed their final ticket on Wednesday after overcoming hosts Germany 2-1, in the 1st semi, with Cristiano Ronaldo netting the winner.
