Somalia reiterates support for Morocco’s territorial integrity

The Federal Republic of Somalia has reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, following the UN Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2797.

In a bilateral meeting in Rabat on Friday with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, reiterated his country’s unwavering stance in favor of Morocco’s claims.

After their discussions, the two ministers issued

a Joint Communiqué in which Abdi Ali expressed his satisfaction with the adoption of Resolution 2797. The resolution endorses Morocco’s autonomy plan within its sovereign framework, serving as a foundation for a just and lasting resolution.

Abdi Ali also praised Morocco’s serious and realistic efforts to resolve this artificial regional dispute and expressed Somalia’s full support for the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy for the Sahara.

In response, Bourita thanked Somalia for its vote in favor of Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, 2025, by the UN Security Council.

He reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to respecting Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
