Sixth suspect arrested in ongoing crackdown on violent Nakuru gang

Police have arrested a sixth suspect linked to a string of violent robberies that have rocked Nakuru County as crackdown intensifies on armed gangs terrorising residents.

The suspect, Elijah Kimani Kinyanjui, was arrested at Mzee wa Nyama area and was found in possession of items recently stolen from a Pakawa resident during an armed robbery.

Kinyanjui was handed over to Nakuru East detectives and is expected to be charged alongside five other suspects arrested in an earlier operation.

The arrest comes two days after detectives from the DCI’s Operation Action Team, Crime Research Bureau, and their Nakuru counterparts cornered five members of the gang believed to be behind a series of brutal attacks across the county.

During the operation, police recovered an AK-47 rifle which had been used in multiple incident including the fatal shooting of a police officer on June 1.

DCI says the gang had also staged a violent robbery in the Soilo area where they attacked a 24-year-old shopkeeper with machetes and daggers, stole hundreds of thousands of shillings, and later shot him dead outside his shop.

Several similar attacks had been reported across Nakuru.

The five suspects arrested have been identified as William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo and Peter Chacha.
