Samburu: Locals in Wamba protest rising insecurity

Business was paralysed for the better part of the day in Wamba, Samburu County, as traders and residents staged protests against rising insecurity in the area.

The demonstrators burned tyres and blocked the town’s main entrance road bringing business to a standstill.

The protests were triggered by the killing of a local trader in an attack that also left children injured.

Two shop assistants sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Maralal Referral Hospital.

Residents claim that bandits have killed over ten people in the area since the beginning of the year, accusing authorities of failing to act.

Area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Langat Mutai confirmed the incident and urged residents to remain calm as security personnel pursue the bandits.

One of the injured victims stated that he saw about seven armed bandits who intended to kill everyone present. He was shot in the chest and a bullet remains lodged inside him.

County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Health, Mr. Lekudere confirmed that both hospitalised victims are in stable condition, though one remains in the ICU after being shot in the head.
