Postmortem for blogger Albert Ojwang’ set for today

The postmortem examination for Albert Ojwang’, who died while in police custody, is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2025, to determine the cause of death.

The exercise, initially set for Monday, June 9 was called off after government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor stepped aside, citing a conflict of interest due to his blood relation to the deceased.

Government Pathologist Dr. Njeru will conduct the procedure this afternoon, a suggestion sharply rejected by the private pathologists.

Ojwang’s family and human rights organizations have intensified calls for a thorough and independent investigation, urging the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to unravel what they term as the mysterious death of the young man, who was also an X influencer.

IPOA Chairperson Ahmed Hassan has pledged to carry out a thorough and impartial probe into the matter.

However, the family’s lawyer dismissed police claims of suicide, pointing to visible injuries on Ojwang’s head, shoulders, and hands as indicators of possible torture and murder.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has since announced that several officers who were on duty at Nairobi’s Central Police Station the night Ojwang’ was detained have been interdicted, pending the outcome of IPOA’s investigation.
