More than 22 million Kenyans have so far registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA), Medical Services PS Dr. Ouma Oluga has announced.

Speaking during a meeting of the Social Sector National Development Implementation Committee (NDIC) in Nairobi on Tuesday, Dr. Oluga said the registration marks a significant step in the country implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

He revealed that SHA’s digital systems are now fully stable, allowing for efficient service delivery across the country.

So far, 1.2 million Kenyans have already accessed healthcare services through the platform, with claims worth Ksh45 billion processed.

“The Social Health Authority is changing the health financing landscape and cushioning Kenyans who would otherwise slide into poverty because of hospital bills,” said Dr. Oluga.

The NDIC meeting, chaired by Labour and Skills Development PS Shadrack Mwadime, brings together 13 State Departments to track and coordinate social sector programmes.
