One dead, 15 critically injured as overloaded pickup overturns in Homa Bay

One person died, and 15 others were critically injured after a pickup truck carrying 24 church members overturned Tuesday at Malongo Village in Suba South Constituency, Homa Bay County.
The group was travelling to Suba Subcounty Hospital in Sindo to collect a body when the accident occurred.
Eight other passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at a nearby health facility.
Those critically injured were rushed to local hospitals as emergency responders worked to provide urgent medical assistance.
Preliminary investigations suggest that overloading and poor road conditions may have contributed to the crash.
The pickup, designed for transporting goods, was being used to carry passengers, raising concerns about compliance with safety regulations.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are urging residents to prioritize safety by avoiding the use of non-passenger vehicles for transport.
Measures are also being taken to support the affected families.
