
Olympian Lillian Odira and African Champion Sarah Moraa qualified for the 20th World Athletics Championships after finishing 1-3 in the 800m final at the Sixth Absa Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour on Saturday evening.
Odira came from behind in the homestretch to reign supreme in the 2-lap race, stopping the clock in 1 minute 58.31 seconds, a personal best time, ahead of Oratile Nowe of Botswana, who finished 2nd in 1:58.47, while world under-20 champion Moraa came home 3rd in 1:58.96 to punch her maiden World Championship ticket.
Both were well inside the standard qualification time of 1:59.0.
The race was the first event in the core events at this year’s Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour gold meet.
