Nairobi-bound SGR service resumes after temporary suspension

Kenya Railways has announced the resumption of the Mombasa to Nairobi Madaraka Express passenger train service, following a temporary suspension on Sunday night due to a technical hitch.

The abrupt suspension left hundreds of passengers stranded. However, in a statement issued on Monday morning, Kenya Railways confirmed that the train would depart from Mombasa at 8:00 am and assured that efforts were underway to fully resolve the issue.

“Further to our notice suspending the Mombasa to Nairobi Madaraka Express 1 Opm passenger train on 6th July 2025, we wish to assure our passengers that we are working tirelessly to resolve the technical issue”.

The state corporation added that arrangements had been made to accommodate all affected passengers and that tickets dated 6th July 2025 would remain valid.

“In the meantime, we have worked on a mechanism to transport all affected passengers, including those who missed the earlier train. The affected passengers are therefore advised to report to the Mombasa Terminus on 7th July, 2025 by 8am for travel. Tickets dated 6th July, 2025 will be deemed valid for boarding and travel, the management said.

Kenya Railways also appealed for calm and patience as they worked to restore normal operations.

“We wish to reiterate that the train suspension was due to a technical hitch and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Kenya Railways prioritises your safety and comfort”, the management added.
