MPs put to task to explain decision to reject promotion of teachers

The National Assembly Education Committee’s has been put to task to explain the motif behind the decision it took to reject the recent promotion of more than 25,000 teachers.

Led by Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Vihiga branch Secretary General Sabala Inyeni, KUPPET accuses the Education Committee of unfair decision making and over reacting on their mandate further interfering with the professional independence of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Inyeni, further, said the move as unlawful and detrimental to the morale and career progression of teachers across the country.

This comes less than a week ago after the TSC CEO Nancy Mcharia was put to task my lawmaker after she announced the promotions 25,252 teachers across the country and forwarded the recommendation to the Education Committee for review.

The lawmakers raised questions over the fairness of the selection criteria and regional distribution of the promoted individuals.

However, KUPPET Vihiga officials accuse the MPs of using the teachers recruitment and promotion to gain political mileage ahead of future elections.
