More suspects arraigned over Saba Saba demonstration

A new series of court arraignments unfolded across several counties, with dozens of suspects charged in connection with incidents of looting, vandalism and arson during the recent Saba Saba demonstrations.

In Kirinyaga County, four individuals accused of setting ablaze the Kirinyaga Central Constituency Development Fund (CDF) offices were presented before the Kerugoya Law Courts.

The same courts handled the case of two other suspects alleged to have broken into and stolen from a supermarket in Kagumo town.

Over in Embu, three suspects were arraigned at the Embu Law Courts. They faced charges of entering a building with intent to commit a felony.

Tigania Law Courts in Meru County heard the case of five individuals accused of obstructing traffic on a pubic road during the protest. All five denied the charges and were each granted a cash bail of Sh30,000 or an alternative bond of Sh50,000.

In Nairobi County, thirty suspects were brought before various courts, facing charges linked to offenses committed during the demonstrations. Their appearances mark one of the largest single-county arraignments related to the protests.

Kitale Law Courts in Trans Nzoia County also handled the case of eight suspects, all of whom denied the charges. Each was released on a bond of Sh50,000. The case is set for mention on 29^th July 2025.

In Nakuru County recorded the highest number of arraignments today (Thursday), with ninety- two suspects appearing before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Nakuru town.

Meanwhile Machakos County twenty suspects were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Mavoko over similar protest related offenses.
