Meru: 10 arrested for carrying out FGM

Police officers from Igembe South sub-county in Meru County are holding 10 suspects for allegedly carrying out FGM to seven girls from the area.
According to Meru County Commissioner Jacob ouma, nine of the suspects are the parents to the girls and another one is a woman who carried out the act.
Ouma said the said seven girls were rescued by the police and children’s services officers from Igembe South sub-county and were taken to a rescue center.
The Meru County Commissioner noted they have received reports that some people are carrying out the illegal activity in the area.
He warned all national government administrators especially the assistant chiefs and the chiefs who are allowing such acts of dire consequences.
Ouma said FGM is against the law and that anyone found carrying out the act or allowing such act will be dealt with as per the law.
