Leaders urged to emulate Raila Odinga to advance national interest

Kenyans from all walks of lives who gathered at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi for the national memorial service for the later former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have been challenged to emulate the departed to move the country forward.

Rev. Prof. David Kodia, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Bondo who is leading the service has challenged leaders to be selfless and put the country’s interest first to secure peace and economic growth.

“God gave Raila Odinga the wisdom to unite Kenyans. How many can fit in his shoes? As we honour him today, let’s see ourselves as Kenyans first and not our regions, where we come from. Kenya is too small to be divided into regions,” said Prof. Kodia.

Rev. Kodia similarly urged Kenyans to fight against graft which the late Odinga showed disdain for. He warned against politicians using money to sway voters and instead stand for the rule of law.

“Raila Odinga was a politician who never relied on money to intimidate or win followers. He never used the power of his wallet to convince others, but instead relied on the power of persuasion,” he added.

The service which is being attended by Kenyans from all walks of life and dignitaries led by President William Ruto marks the second day of honouring the fallen political icon.

Rev. Prof Kodia was assisted by the Rt. Rev. Jonathan Kabiru, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Nairobi, Col. Rev. Granton Mwanyanya, Anglican Principal Chaplain, KDF and the Very Rev. Canon Evans Omollo, Provost of the All Saints Cathedral.
