KNH assures public of security in wards after patient murder

The Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has assured the public of safety following an incident in which a patient was murdered in a ward.

In a statement issued on Sunday, KNH CEO William Sigilai said the hospital is cooperating with investigators to establish the security breach that may have led to the murder.

“KNH is cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies and is committed to not prejudicing the ongoing investigation. The post-mortem examination of the deceased’s body will be conducted as directed by the DCI,” said Sigilai.

He affirmed that the hospital has an elaborate security system, including CCTV surveillance in common areas and officers from the National Police Service stationed within the facility.

The hospital, which serves over 1,800 patients daily, is also in close proximity to a police post.

“We assure the public that we are taking all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future. We urge the public to allow the DCI to conduct its investigations without interference and to refrain from speculation that may cause further distress to the family,” said Sigilai.

The deceased, Gilbert Kinyua, aged 40, was stabbed to death on Friday morning while in his hospital bed by a suspected intruder.
