Three-time Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon retained her 1-mile title at the Athlos New York Run with the fastest time on American soil over the distance.
The event, organised by entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, spouse to 23 grand slam Tennis champion Serena Williams, to spotlight women’s athletics, was staged at Icahn Stadium, where Kipyegon displayed her trademark composure to fend off Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay, clocking 4 minutes 17.78 seconds.
Tsegay settled for second place, while American Nikki Hiltz finished third, followed by Kenya’s Susan Ejore.
This marks Kipyegon’s second consecutive Athlos title, having triumphed in the inaugural 2024 edition.
