Kipyegon, Chebet rewarded Ksh 5 million for World Records by the Sports Ministry

Olympic Champions Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet have been rewarded Ksh 5 million each by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports following their outstanding performances last Saturday at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League, where they both set new world records.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya hosted the two heroines early Tuesday at his Talanta Hela office after returning home on Monday night.

Kipyegon broke her 1500m world record for the third year in running when she clocked 3 minutes 48.68 seconds, bettering her 2024 record of 3:49.04.

Chebet also won the 5000 m with a new world record of 13:58.68, smashing the 2023 Gudat Tsegay’s record of 14:00.21, her 3rd career World Record.
