Kindiki pledges to clear 44,000 passport backlog in 14 days

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has vowed to clear the backlog of passports at the Immigration Department withing the next 14 days.

Kindiki, who made a second visit to Nyayo House on Friday, said emergency desks have been established to expedite the processing of passports for applicants.

The CS noted that priority will be given to individuals seeking medical care abroad, students destined to learning institutions abroad and persons who have secured job opportunities in foreign countries and have reporting deadlines.

In addition, special attention will be accorded to expectant and lactating mothers, parents or guardians accompanying minors, the elderly and persons with disability.

“For the second day, monitored operations at the Immigration Department and tremendous progress has been recorded. As directed yesterday, no person will be allowed to hang around the precincts of Nyayo House and security officers will strictly enforce law and order,” Kindiki stated.

The CS further revealed that the Department will receive up to Ksh1.3 billion in the 2023/2024 financial year to procure modern printing machines.
