SOMALIA KENYA - FINLAND

Kenya and Finland have underscored the critical need to sustain international momentum behind Somalia’s peacebuilding process, particularly in light of the ongoing ATMIS drawdown and heightened regional sensitivities.

The commitment was reaffirmed during a consultative dialogue between Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi with President Alexander Stubb of Finland at the historic Kultaranta Presidential Castle, on the sidelines of the ongoing Kultaranta Talks in Naantali.

In a statement, CS Mudavadi noted that their discussion focused on the shifting security landscape in Africa, with a particular lens on developments in the Horn of Africa.

“We underscored the critical need to sustain international momentum behind Somalia’s peacebuilding process, especially in light of the ongoing ATMIS drawdown and heightened regional sensitivities.”

The two leaders reaffirmed the shared commitment to multilateralism, championing African-led solutions and stronger regional frameworks, including EAC, SADC, and IGAD, as the foundation for lasting peace.

Similarly, they explored the value of leveraging the expertise of eminent persons to advance dialogue and stability.

President Stubb assured Kenya of Europe’s continued support for Africa’s regional bodies as they work toward sustainable peace and security on the continent.

“I welcomed President Stubb’s assurance of Europe’s continued support for Africa’s regional bodies as they pursue lasting peace and security on the continent.” Mudavadi assured.
