Kakamega elders threaten action against politicians fueling violence

The Kakamega Council of Elders has issued a strong warning to politicians amid a surge in political violence at funeral gatherings across the county.

The Council signalled its intention to take firm action against leaders linked to the growing trend of organised disruptions, describing it as a disturbing pattern in which hired groups are deployed to interfere with solemn public events and official functions.

Speaking in Kakamega town, Council Chairman Elly Simwa cited several incidents where such acts of hooliganism have escalated tensions, resulting in injuries and destruction of property.

In an official statement, Mr. Simwa urged political leaders to exercise restraint and uphold decorum, emphasising that public platforms, particularly funerals, must not be turned into arenas of conflict.

He further called on leaders to allow Governor Fernandes Barasa to execute his mandate and engage residents across the county without interference.
