Race for IEBC chair enters home stretch as interviews kick off

Interviews for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson position kicked off Monday morning, with 11 candidates set to face the selection panel at the College of Insurance in Nairobi’s South C estate.
The process seeks to get new leadership after the seat remained vacant for over two years following the exit of the late Wafula Chebukati.
Among the 11 candidates appearing Monday before the selection panel led by Dr. Nelson Makanda, are Abdulqadir Lorot Ramadhan, former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Atieno Amadi, former East African Court of Justice judge Charles Ayako Nyachae and Edward Katama Ngeywa.
Similarly, Erastus Edung Ethekon, Francis Kakai Kissinger, Jacob Ngwele Muvengei and Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo will be interviewed on Tuesday.
On the final day, Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Lillian Wanjiku Manegene (Kirinyaga), Robert Akumu Asembo (Busia), and Saul Simiyu Wasilwa (Bungoma) will take their turn before the selection panel.

A total of 37 candidates had expressed interest in the IEBC Chairperson position before the list was narrowed down to 11.
Once this phase concludes, interviews for the six vacant IEBC commissioners’ positions will commence on Thursday, March 28, and run until April 24th.
A total of 105 candidates, including 32 women, have been shortlisted in this category.
