HELB Loans: Students, trainees receive additional Ksh1.56B

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has disbursed an additional Ksh 1.56 billion to students and trainees to support their tuition and upkeep.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the funds were released on Friday, 14th March 2025, to 31,263 TVET trainees and 33,863 university students.

“On Friday, 14th March, 2025, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) disbursed Ksh 1.56B to students and trainees for tuition and upkeep. A total of 31,263 TVET trainees and 33,863 university students benefitted from these loan disbursements”, the CS confirmed in a statement.

He stated that the beneficiary students and trainees have been notified of the disbursements through HELB’s official communication channels and are advised to check their HELB portals for further details.

With this latest disbursement, HELB has, in the current Financial Year 2024/2025, released a total of Ksh 32.7 billion in tuition and upkeep loans to 195,522 trainees in TVET institutions and 390,612 students in universities.

He assured that the government will continue to provide financial support to both university students and TVET trainees to help them achieve their academic and training goals.

“The provision of this funding will ensure that student and trainee needs are met, enabling them to continue with their academic, training and research programmes without hindrance,” he said.
