Health Ministry steps up collaboration with Kenya Red Cross Society

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale Wednesday hosted the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) team, led by Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Idris, at Afya House, Nairobi.

The KRCS team shared updates on their ongoing programs, which align with the Ministry of Health’s six priority departments—demonstrating their continued commitment to advancing shared public health goals.

Acknowledging the longstanding auxiliary role of KRCS in supporting health and emergency services, Duale proposed three key areas for strengthened collaboration:

1. Formalize data-sharing protocols between KRCS’s community-based surveillance systems and the national epidemic intelligence platforms.
2. Explore KRCS involvement in the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP).
3. Develop a formal framework to guide KRCS’s role in emergency response and coordination, enhancing joint efforts in Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and health security.

These initiatives are aligned with the Ministry’s focus on scaling up primary health care as a pathway to achieving equitable and accessible health services across the country.
